Sports Buttons Ideas

My daughter has a pin collection so I think the display we used would be perfect for sports buttons.

I took a large piece of polar fleece (great because you don't have to hem in) and looped it over a wooden dowel rod and fastened with safety pins on the back. Then hang the dowel rod on the wall as a display. It works great because 1)no sew and simple 2) can choose whatever polar fleece that suits an interest maybe a multi-sports piece 3) Can choose the size of polar fleece to accomadate the number of buttons 4) no-sew means it can be taken apart if/when in needs to be without damage to the material, dowel rod, or buttons.
Like another response said, it would be great for a graduation party.

How about a wide piece of ribbon and attach it to a wall, closet door or similar? This way they could be grouped according to sport/activity or have them in order according to date? Just my thoughts. H.

The one thing that comes to mind for me is maybe make a banner that is divided in years and put the pins on it. Or have it shaped like a pennant team flag with her name on it and maybe have a couple of them for the activity she is in if it is soccer or dance.

Craft and fabric stores sell strips of velcro that have a sticky side. You could get some of that, stick it to the back of the pin (it'll come off when you want it to) and put them around the frame of a large bulletin board where you keep all your family communications and notes. Or maybe around the frame of one of those large montly calendars.

I order the picture magnets and display them on the fridge. It's so fun to watch the kids grow from year to year.

I stick them to one of those padded bulletin/display boards. I found one at Kohl's for about $15.

Cork boards! My husband collects pins and displays them on a cork board. We've been adding the boy's pins to the board as well.

How about a French memo board? The ribbon criss-crosses in a diamond pattern and you could put one button in each diamond.

Just an idea and I don't know how it would work but...I would get a plain piece of cord board and have it framed in a shadow box and then stick the pins in the corkboard and display this way. worth a try!

A way I have dealt with the buttons, is to pin them to the bedroom curtain. They are on display and safe. Good luck.

I hang a pretty scarf at christmas to pin cards to, would a pretty scarf or runner of some sort hung with your pictures work? then you could just pin them to that and keep the pics and buttons all together. just a thot.

How about a shadow box?

I made one a few years back for my uncle's wife and kids after he passed away, with all of his medals from Vietnam and some pictures from that time and a picture I found of him about a year before he passed away. I took a piece of 1/2 inch foam from the craft store, and put a piece of fabric that looked like the flag over it, and that way I could pin the medals into the foam but it still looked really nice.

You can find the fabric, foam and shadow box at any Hobby Lobby, and you could even get little sports related buttons/beads to decorate the bigger empty spots, then remove them as you put more pins in there.

A shadow box frame (I think that is what they are called). I put all my daughters metals in them. Look in the frame section at Michaels or Joann's.

The frame is thick & have backing that you can stick pins into.

You could get a memory board with the cork behind the fabric or make your own. and just puch the buttons in a little way as to not bend them to much. I think it would look pretty neat.

Have you thought about scrap booking? I have seen some nice ones that people have made for different events. That way you can have the year on the front of the album. They have kits that contain everything except the album itself. This will keep the pictures in tact as well as comments and captions that can be added. Have Fun. G.

R., get a wide (like 2 inch or so) piece of ribbon and hang it in his room. Attach the pins down the line. Its a fun way to see the progression in age as the years go by and so easy.

You could get a sturdy piece of ribbon or a strip of fabric and tack it on a wall and pin her buttons to it.

How about turning them into magnets for the fridge?

My sister was in a ton of sports in MS/HS so to display them (and my brothers) for my mom I took mardigras beads in the schools colors and snipped them so they were just one long strand. Then I pinned the buttons on (the beads kept them separated) and hung them on the wall. School colors were orange and black so we had one orange strand and one black strand. You could probably use silver or a color that would be complementary to your decor. Or, as we do with little girls in our house, just grab one that she might already have because if you're going to load it with buttons anyways you won't be able to see it. :)

If I had that issue I think that I would pin them on a fav blanket of hers or buy a nice piece of fabric, sew a hem and hang it in her room. When she got tired of it or outgrew it I would tuck it away for graduation. It would be a must have there. :)

My mom collects old buttons like that and she has a extra large embroidery hoop with fabric stretched out. It works really well because youd on't have to bend the pen to get it in there.

if you have a tv stand, or above your cupboards in the kitchen (avoiding the oven area for splatters) - or someplace even along the ceiling in her room - run a thick but pretty ribbon (thick meaning width not actually thickness...) around with tacks or hooks or whatever, and hang them from the ribbon.

OR you can put them in a large shadowbox? i like the ribbon idea the best. hanging down from the top of something like a cupboard or just hanging down the wall would be cute too!

pin them to a big spinning globe or get a wall hanging blanket or quilt and pin them on that.

Might not work if you have tons of buttons but I put them on the visor in our van. That way I can see them every time we go somewhere and other people can comment on them as well.
Another idea would be to put them in the slots used for Christmas cards/pictures. (I've seen them in catalogs and scrap booking books). My sister in law has one hanging over her door filled with pictures. I always enjoy looking at them when we visit. Good luck to you!

I used a long piece of wide ribbon and hung it from the cealing or top of the wall. It reached to the to the floor. As each sport or year passed I added the buttons to the ribbon. It was a great thing to display at their high school graduation party.

Maybe a cork board or a peg board?

An easy solution is create a banner to hang them on the wall.

I have a heavy duty scarf made of fleece that I used to wear a few buttons on. Now the scarf is hanging and is loaded with buttons. I've also put some of them on my boys bulletin boards in their bedrooms.
