The staff at CHOC hospital in Orange, CA has recommended that my son, 19 months, go to speech therapy 2 times per week. He has about a 6 month delay. Does anyone have recommendations for a speech therapy center near Costa Mesa, CA? The speech therapy centers I have called all have a waiting list or do not take Blue Cross PPO insurance. Please send your suggestions.

Thank you.

Have you contacted the Regional Center? My son also has a speech delay and we had someone come to our house to give him his assessment 5 days after I made the call. From what they told me, once the phone call is made they have 45 days to have your child assessed and in the system (if he qualifies). In our case it will be much less than 45 days. Also, the people at Regional Center told us that they take most insurance. If your insurance does not cover their services, they will give you the services out of their pocket. I have four friends who have gone through Regional Center in Irvine who had fantastic experiences.
I was also given a few referrals to two different locations. One is Abby Rosenberg ###-###-#### (she is located in Newport Beach).
Abby was referred to us by our pediatrician. The others is Jody Stratton at the Communication Development Center (near Mariners school/Rock Harbor). She was referred by a friend of ours who just had her son assessed. Here is the website: http://strattonslp.com

My daughter started speech therapy when she was 18 months at Speech Pathology Associates (SPA) in Irvine. ###-###-####. They also have a website. But I agree with the posts that you should start first with Regional Center and see what comes from an assessment with them. We were able to get services at SPA through Regional Center until my daughter turned 3.

providence, right next to choc is good. personally, I have had problems with the staff. but, I haven't been able to find other speech centers in OC. the best is Cal state Northridge....so, that makes orange sound close.

Sky Pediatric Therapy has great PT, OT, and Speech in Irvine. (www.skypediatric.com) Also, right in the same center, is Music Therapy Services of Orange County (www.mckeemusictherapy.com) that you might want to look into as well to help your son's speech.

Sky's #: ###-###-####
Music Therapy Services of Orange County's #: ###-###-####

I would go through regional center, too. But only being 6 months delayed might not get your son services through them. Also once he turns 3 you can go through school distric for free. Make sure you start school distric process a few months before 3 because it takes awhile.
