Hi,
My son is 33 month old and has speech delay. We have evaluated him at Our Children's house Irving. Since Our insurance does not cover we will have to pay 110 $ per session. Does anyone know good speech pathologist that are less expensive in Dallas area ? Also has anyone used Our Children's house at Irving ? Please let me know. Thanks

What can I do next?

You should be able to get services through ECI with the state of Texas at no cost up to 36 months. It changes a bit after age 3, but the details on the web site. My friend is using them and her son is making great strides!

ECI(Early Childhood Intervention) will do speech at No or low cost depending on the income Up to age 3. After the age of 3 your public schools do it free of charge. Even though you have had him evaluated, ECI will evaluate him again. Because he is almost 3 he may not get much from ECI, but they will work with you to give you referrals of the schools in your area and make sure that He getd what He needs. What county are you in? Message me if you want more info. Good luck!!

Call the Brent Woodall foundation in Irving. Their website is woodallkids.org. It is $50 an hour for an SLP and $25 an hour for a speech assistant. I have also heard good things about Monkey Mouths in Hurst and I think they are less expensive than Baylor.

This service can be free through the public school system. Go on the website of your local elementary or google "child find."

Will they consider that $110 per hour and break it up into (2) 30 minutes sessions? Most quote an hourly rate but at that age know that the attention for therapy is about 30 minutes and will let you split it up. Atleast that has been my experience. Both my boys were speech delayed. Callier Center is great, but they recently changed their rates at the end of last year. And charge $150 per session now. We've tried the public school system in Plano. Not sure what it's like in Irving. If they offer a Communications class then that's perfect for speech delay. If they want to put you in an integrated class room with a speech therapist than chances are you won't get the speech therapy you need. It's really more focused on social skills than speech. Wish I could be of more help to you in your area. Good Luck!

You've gotten some good advice so I'll just second what you've already heard. ECI can serve him until he turns 3. Go ahead and call your local district because they will try to test him before he turns 3 as part of Childfind. They may even be able to use the evaluation from Our Children's House. The type of services you receive will depend on the type and severity of speech delay. If it is an articulation issue, he will likely go into an articulation class or work individually or in a small group with a speech therapist. If it is a more severe language delay (not speaking) then he will likely go into a PPCD (preschool program for children with disabilities) classroom where he will be with children with a variety of disabilities. I suppose it depends on the district, but he will get speech therapy and so much more in this type of class, even if the other kids are more impaired than he is. Most kids in these programs make great progress. And they are free! Good luck!

Check and see if you can become part of Early Childhood Intervention (ECI). It was also called Parent's in Partnership. They will provide services at your home or wherever your child is and I believe they charge you according to what you can afford. Plus, they'll see your child through the age of 3. My daughter used them and they were really good for us.
