Somebody Please Respond- Strange E-mail Possibly as a Result of This Site?

I had a really weird e-mail sent to my personal e-mail address that I believe was a result of my having a profile on this website. I don't have any profiles on any other sites. I'm wondering if anyone else has had this same issue. I thought with the exception of our public profile our other profile info was private. I would never have used my real e-mail address if I thought that others could see it. The e-mail was addressed to me from me (yes, it had my e-mail address in both the TO: and FROM: lines). And in the subject line it also had my email address appearing with Hello after it.

This is the e-mail that I receive to my personal e-mail address (not the mamapedia e-mail box).

TO: my personal email address was listed
FROM: again my personal email address was listed

Subject: again my personal email address was listed-Hello

Good Day......

I was wondering if you might like to chat with me?
I found your profile online and would like to get to know you better.
Please email me back (gives an email address here)____________________________________________________________________________
That was all it said.

Did anyone else have a similar thing happen?

So What Happened?

Update: I don't think the responders are realizing that I can't report this as spam (I do have a spam folder as well) because it is giving my email address as the senders email address. So the email looks like it is coming from me when it isn't. Plus the emailer is referrencing a profile in the body of the email. Sounds to me like it IS a result of this site.

I get emails like that fairly often, but don't believe they are as a result of Mamasource. In my case, my email provider puts them into the SPAM file, and I only see them when I empty that file each day. I never open them, but simply delete them. If your server has a "report Spam" function do that. Otherwise simply deleting them and ignoring them is about the only advice I can give you. Whenever you open such emails you not only have a chance to encourage more of the same, but you could be putting yourself at risk of a computer virus.

It is highly unlikely that the strange e-mail you received is a result of your profile on mamasource. Your e-mail address is not listed on your profile. Any messages to you go through mamasource who then directs them to your e-mail address. No one else can see your personal address. The sender of the e-mail probably refers to having seen your profile because most people these days have at least one profile out there on the web. Here is a link that might answer your question.

I am curious, though, what are you expected to do if you actually wanted to chat? How would you get in touch with the person when the only e-mail address included in the message is your own?

Also, I think you could report it as spam unless you plan on e-mailing yourself in the future. There should be no reason why you can't block your own e-mail address.
Good luck.

My guess is that it's someone just sending out tons of spam to see who will open the email and/or respond to it. I would delete it or report it to your email carrier. Good luck!

I have a firm rule... if I do not know who something is from or it's something weird like that... I don't bother to even open it... I hit the SPAM button and it goes bye-bye.

I had a hacker once... he not only hacked my computer but everyone I emailed with computers. It was an innocent email so I thought. Do not open anything that looks weird or you don't know the person. It could contain a trojan horse which will allow this person to get into your computer and all your personal stuff.

this is a common spam email that I have seen for the past few years. Spammers will take hundreds of variations of email addresses to see who responds. I don't think its from the Mamasource email list.

Just delete it and or report it to your ISP and make sure you never respond to any email your not sure of where it comes from. good luck.
