'Soul Sister' by Train or anything by Maroon 5. The Train song was just so overplayed when it came out that it makes me want to scream.
....what songs do you immediately turn OFF when they come on the radio?
For me, it's just about ANY Billy Joel or Rod Stewart song.
How about you? :)

'Soul Sister' by Train or anything by Maroon 5. The Train song was just so overplayed when it came out that it makes me want to scream.
Lady gaga yuck! And any song that speaks of death, ex: Billy Joels the good die young and especially Alicia Keys "no O./everything's gonna be alright." Can't take it since the passing of my mom in 2007 and my dad in 2010.
Minnie Ripperton. JK.
Thanks for trashing lots of songs and bands that I like guys. And I have to admit to loving Maroon 5. Sorry.
Oh, this is why I rarely listen to the radio!
Anything by Celine Dion, Madonna, Mariah Carey or the other crew of histrionic "divas" (who are not, in my opinon, really *divas*. I'm leaving that to Aretha, Sarah Vaughn, Billie Holliday, the "proven for being a voice and not a celebrity" divas. I know, grumpy old lady.).
Whiny, woe-is-me pop songs.
Anything *featuring* auto-tune. Stop the madness!
Profanity-rap. (Where music is just a reason to use all the swear words you know, multiple times.)
Music that sounds like people are having sex. Not interested.
Bob Marley's Greatest Hits (see same reason as the Shins, below, just back it up to the '90s.), and *anyone* (esp. men) singing "No Woman No Cry", unless their last name is Marley. And *especially* if I am in tears already. Then I might just make you cry.
I am totally burned out on the Shins right now. Loved them when they weren't being played at every coffeehouse in Portland. All the time.
This is why I'm a jazz girl-- but no "flaccid jazz" thanks. (You know, that 'searching for a pulse' elevator music that passes for jazz.) And no chaotic acid jazz. Sorry.
My list of my 'dislikes', musicwise, is taller than I am.
Any rap songs that teach children to be illiterate and speak incorrect grammar!
"Feelings"...by any artist.
Straight Rap.
Old Fashioned Choir music.
Any song that reminds me of my EX makes me push the next button.
I listen to almost everything. Things I turn off are
- songs that don't match my mood
- songs that are blatant rip offs of better songs marketed to kids who don't know any better yet
- songs I don't want my son repeating (You and me baby, ain't nothin but mammals... so lets do it like they do on the discovery channel is something my son would get a KICK out of, ditto NIN and others, that just sort of end up switched over when the first bars make it through)
I quickly change any Rush, ELO, Jethro Tull and most Styx songs. I'm not a rap or hip/hop fan, although I like it sometime when I'm taking a workout class or thrown in to mix things up at a club or party. I don't listen to most of today's "pop" music. Jethro Tull's "Aqualung" will send me running from a room though!
Hazel W -I could not agree with you more about Mariah Carey and Celine Dion! VOMIT! You are 100% correct about "real" divas!
Mum4ever -I think "Feelings" was my first hated song ;-) It sent me over the edge as a child, and I laughed the other day when dropping my oldest off at pre-k -O. of his teachers was joking around and singing it, and the kids went CRAZY hating it! I told her I hated it too -especially at their age. It's truly awful.
anything by nikki minaj, soilder boy, waka flaka flame, rosco dahs, anything that is gimmick rap! ugh
I usually have to duck when I say this because people get so shocked and want to throw things......but....(and this is my # 1)
ANYTHING BY JOURNEY!
Lady Gaga and Pink Floyd.
Anything that is on more then twice an hour. I have to listen to the radio in waves. That is how i can find newer music i do like...Once i have listened to it for a few days I have to break myself from it. If there is anything I like well enough I have the spouse download it. Off the top of my head though I cant think of any that make me crazy..i just stop listening. I love alot of the older names thrown in the junk pile. Which is ok. I was raised on alot of them.
Hazel i love you response!!
**Updated**
I am under 35 and just started listening to Pink floyd...I am crazy in love...''Hey you'' it is my theme song right now!!..not because i can relate just because i can get lost in it...forget most 80's music...i was born in 83...i thank my mom when we joke about how bad some music is..most came out when i was way to young to even try and appreciate it...anythiing after 1977 is all really hit or miss.
Billy Joel and Elton John!
Maroon 5. I HATE Maroon 5. All their songs sound the same to me. Just hate it.
:)
(and hate is such a strong word.. must mean something here.)
's why I don't listen to the radio. Can't take it. My ipod, a cd, or just the sound of the V6 in the car, or the distant Xbox from upstairs.
:)
(I've got a couple Faces songs on my ipod featuring Rod Stewart you know, that's how old I am)
Haven't heard it in a while but Debbie Boone's "You light up my life"...I couldn't get to the radio fast enough to turn it off...
Rod Stewart was another O. (love love love Billy Joel). I think a lot is what we associated it with at the time. Hated Fleetwood Mac because all the high and mighty rich brats at school loved them.....
I can't stand Nickleback! Whenever I hear them I want to find the nearest chalkboard and scratch my nails down it just to get some relief!
Oh, I love Billy Joel, Rod Stewart, and Celine Dion! I do not like Taylor Swift or Barbara Streissand--can't change the channel fast enough! Oh, and Chris Brown--can't get over him beating up Rhianna.
Sarah McLachlan! Her music makes me queasy! I know everyone has their own opinion.
I also HATE hardcore rap, or screaming metal.
Other than that, i love music!!
these days...
Any rap, R&B, pop, dance, a lot of Rock.
There are only a select few "newer" bands that I will ever listen to.
The classics never get old...
Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, Johnny cash, Rolling Stones, STP, Blind Melon etc
Only "newish" bands I listen to are The black Keys, Arcade Fire, the Decemberists, and a few others.
Most music these days just annoys me.
Then again I'm very VERY picky about my music.
I get really annoyed by how many people are out there making lots of money for "music" when they all use auto-tuners for their voices, or say the same words over and over.
Most music these days has no heart or soul.
But Again, I am picky :)
Hazel, I'm soo with you there :)
Almost anything 80's, especially hair bands. Can't stand Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, or anything like it! Most rap sucks too. I mainly listen to Christian music and classic rock, so most new-age stuff is not for me.
any pink floyd. i just don't get the obsession. OVERPLAYED.
Anything with a high pitched bimbo singer. Male or Female.
Anything Lady GAGA has got to stop, RUSH, DIO hate it, I cannot stand Simon and Garfunkel, Celine Dione , Taylor swift, Journey, Anything hip hop is just stupid cannot take it, and that stupid Fire Fly song I dont know who sings it but god I HATE it.
Anything by The Who, Steve Miller Band or the Doors. So sick of those overplayed bands!
I don't listen to the radio much, its mostly background noise if its on at all and usually Christian stations. . .but when I listen to 'regular' stations I can't stand Smashing Pumpkins. Never could!
