Some Horrible Person Broke into My Car Last Night!!!!

Oh A., I'm so sorry. Having had this happen to me years ago, I know how you feel and I just want to know I'll be thinking good thoughts for you today. :)

It is devastating to have someone go through your things,But now it's time to clean up the mess.You knew you forgot the purse but the car was locked still not an excuse just to leave it in your car there are dumb acts of negligence on both sides you for not getting the purse & the one who stole from you all could of been avoided just by going to get the purse no matter how busy you were that evening.I would be furious if my hubby left my cell phone in his truck & it was stolen.

I hate hearing about people breaking into homes & cars & stealing other people's belongings :(

I haven't had much stolen from me personally, but I have had a gun pointed at me during a hotel robbery (hubby was working the counter that night). That was awful!! I was a few months pregnant at the time too! By the time they caught this idiot, he had robbed 15 hotels...

We also had someone come into our house late one night several years ago (daughter was under a year old). Long story, but we THINK this guy meant to be going to our neighbor's house - who was expecting him (never mind that our lights were off & her porch light was on.. ugh). He only made it just inside the front door before my husband heard the door & yelled. We couldn't sleep for weeks!!

And as petty as this is, at our last apartment, one Monday morning I came out to my truck with my daughter to take her to daycare, and found a beer bottle in the bed of my truck. Disgusting! I had to stop & toss it in the dumpster before I left. Then, by the time I got to the daycare, one of my tail light assemblies was hanging off the truck by the wires. Took me a bit to figure it out, but I opened the tailgate to discover that BOTH screws to hold the tail light assembly on were GONE. So apparently some idiot(s) were sitting on my tailgate the night before, drinking their beer, and stealing my freakin screws!!! Really??? You people don't have anything else to do? I had to use a bungee cord to tie the assembly on until I could go buy screws & washers to bolt it back in. I was soooo pissed that day! It was even raining too, as if things weren't annoying enough!

People are just so downright disrespectful these days!!

I hope they catch whoever did this to you!!

Some friends of mine had their house broken into several months ago. $3000 worth of stuff stolen. Just a couple months ago some young kid (teenager I assume - I don't know details) got caught with their Macbook because he took it to the Apple store to get something fixed! Then he bragged about it online! So this kid got caught, BUT he only bought the laptop off of some random guy in a parking lot... :/

And back in April, a 19 year old girl rang the doorbell of a coworker's house while he was in the shower. After his shower, he heard a noise in the house, thought it was his cat at first, but then went into a room to look. There's this girl standing there with his iPod & prescriptions & whatnot! Then she had the nerve to ask HIM who HE was!! hello!!! lol He actually had to TACKLE her to keep her from getting away while he called the police. Lock your doors when you take a shower....

Heck just last week somebody shattered the glass back door of our office. Stole a phone & projector from our conference room. Alarm must have scared them off after that. Thank goodness they have an alarm - there is a TON of nice stuff in that office!

I know how you feel. I had stupidly left my door unlocked when I was in college and someone stole my favorite Ray Bans. Not expensive but I learned a valuable lesson: hide your things in your car so they can't be seen. I hope everything works out for you.

I would call your bank, give them your info...police report, account number, etc. and tell them what happened. With banks being insured, more then likely you will be able to get the money back, but it'll just take some time.

Hopefully the police took fingerprints and whatever else evidence they could get!

I also really hope that you did lock your door and not just think you did, because if it's not locked it's not considered broken into. (Totally not saying you didn't lock it, but those are always questions people ask).

OH NO! I'm so sorry! I literally gasped while reading... you poor thing. On top of the advice you've already gotten and the things you've already done, try to relax. My girlfriend recently had her apartment broken into and it's totally traumatized her... she lived in the same apartment for 4 years and JUST got robbed. It was a blow. You start to feel safe and comfortable, then something awful like this happens. She has to see a therapist now, because she's so... unsettled. Not scared, not paranoid, UNSETTLED. Don't let your mind become a victim too. Write your feelings down on paper and share them with your husband... men want to be the protector, and I'm sure he's feeling like he failed you in some way (although he has not, not at all)... but I'm sure he's going to want to make you feel better. You'll get through this :) Keep your chin up honey, karma is a B!TCH!! That person will get what's coming to them!! *hugs*

The fact is that the world is dangerous. Since one of our cars was stolen, I no longer consider my car a place to keep things. I don't even keep CDs in there anymore. In any event, contact all of your credit card companies to cancel your cards and they will not pay any things charged on them. Notify your bank and they will reimburse any funds stolen from your accounts. Your auto insurance should take care of damage to the car and possibly the items stolen. Ask your Homeowners or Renters insurance if they will cover the stolen items. And the most important thing to do is to file a Fraud Alert with the major credit reporting agencies: that includes Experian, Trans Union, and one more I can't remember. You only have to notify one of the agencies and they will notify the other two. It will keep the thieves from opening any credit cards or loan accounts for 6 months. I can't emphasize how important all these steps are.

I left my car unlock and someone rummaged through my car a few months ago. Luckily, there wasn't anything of value, but it is terribly violating. And my husband blamed ME for leaving my car unlocked. Yes - I was wrong, but I'm not the one looking for other people's belongings!
You could have had absolutely nothing in your car and they still may have broken into your car. It's just trashy people that stoop to that level. You have done all that you can do - hopefully next time they use your card they will be caught!
You bank should cooperate with you with all the fraud that goes on - I had my debit card hacked and Bank of America returned the money ASAP - they were so helpful.
Good luck - don't beat yourself up. As a mom/wife, I totally understand how we get carried away with household duties and forget other duties. We can't do everything!

I am so sorry! I hope your Hubby is mad at the bad guys and not you! We should be able to be a little forgetful every once in awhile and not have something like this happen! I agree about contacting your bank. They may be able to help (stop/reverse payment) and in identifying the thieves especially if an ATM was used to take some of the money.

Last year, someone stole my credit card and ran it dry. I felt so violated and cried for like 2 days just realizing how horrible people can be sometimes. Make sure you explain to your credit card company and bank what happened. When I called my credit card company, they excused the charges so I wouldnt be responsible for them because of identity theft. I also signed up for lifelock at www.lifelock.com They are REALLY good at monitoring your credit activity and alert you when they notice anything suspicious. Also, THey return any money to you if someone does manage to streal your identity on their watch.Hopefully, your bank and credit card company wont hold you respoinsible for the charges and you can move on with your life. Some poeple can be such scum.

there isn't much more you can do unless you have any idea who did this. But when you file for stole credit card/identry theft at your bank they should work with you to refund the money. This happened to us last year when someone cleaned out my husbands account and put tons on our credit card. It took awhile but the bank eventually cleared everything off our cards and we didn't pay for it. Also find out where the purchases were made...online? In a store? If in a local store maybe they can get the survellance. Online police should be able to find a ship to address. Sorry this doesn't help much. Hope you get it figured out!

The bank and credit card companies will refund your money. File a homeowners claim and see if they'll cover your personal items that were taken.

I'm sorry that happened to you. I know you must feel so violated. You've gotten good advice on what to do in terms of your "stuff".
But might I suggest you PRAY for the person that broke in and stole your stuff? I know you would probably like to pray for God to hit them right now with a bolt of lightning, but seriously, think of what kind of person (likely a man) would steal a woman's PURSE and girly things?
Obviously, it's not for their own use. They need one thing...money, and probably money to feed their drug habit. They are most likely miserable, addicted, in a lot of mental pain, and desperate. They need your prayers to turn your life around.
Believe me, it sucks to be the victim. I have had my car stolen (13 years ago) while I was surfing. The thief actually had the nerve to steal my backpack off the beach to get my keys and take the car. They took our baby car seat, our stroller, a bunch of baby toys, my husband's pager, two pairs of sunglasses, etc. We were so poor back then we couldn't even afford the simplest of things. We had to use the insurance money to pay the deductibles and most of the stuff we lost, wonderful people from church donated used and new items to us to cover it.
We have an older car that has been broken into more times than I can count. But since we know better we leave nothing of value in it, except the baby car seat. Unfortunately, one time my son accidentally left his old game boy in there, and guess what....gone the next day! We live in a okay area, but close by there are really bad areas, and desperate people drive thru the neighborhood all the time in the middle of the night looking for people who have left stuff in their cars.
Two Christmas's ago, another thief attempted to steal my husband's super old Mazda stick shift. We were like...."What??? Who the heck would want THAT car?" But apparently a stick shift is easier to steal than other cars, so they went for it, on Christmas Eve! We were so bummed. They did $400 worth of damage to the steering column in their botched attempt, which was pretty much more than the car was even worth.
Those things make me SO mad, but then I just have to think....okay, these people needed those items more than me I guess. All my "stuff" is just that...."stuff". My family is more important and so is my health. I just feel sorry for the people who do those kinds of things because they are so sick and desperate :(

Wow! Just wanted to say how sorry I am! I did something similar many years ago (before kids so no mommy brain excuse). I had closed at work and was so exhausted. I had to be back at work 3 hrs later. (at 4am) I just left my purse in the car thinking it was for such a brief period. I went out to my car to find my window smashed in and purse gone. It taught me an awful lesson. You just can't trust people. I felt so violated and that it happened right in front of my home made is somehow worse.

I think you are doing everything you can. Continue to follow up with the police and keep on your bank and credit cards. Not only should they refund all of the money taken, but they do have a vested interest in catching the theif since they are going to lose a lot of money reimbursing you. Also, your car insurance will pay for any damages or stolen property in your car. Make sure you file a claim with them too. I know they can't give you back your trip to Paris, but they can give you back the money to get another purse. Just remember - the theif can't take away your wonderful memories from your trip. Time will eventually heal you from your pain and anger too.......

I do not know why we have to learn these lessons but a lot of us have had the same lesson shoved un us, myself and hubby included!

~We accidentally left our garage door open once (I blame the darn cats, they run in and stop the garage door and if your not careful and watch it all the way till it closes it might not close and you miss it) anyway, some wonderful human being came in and cleaned us OUT! All hubby's tools, a bike, snowboard, weed wacker, insurance info, license plates off the cars, pretty much anything you could sell, I swear they had to have a car to move all our stuff, they took everything including my hubby's new set of golf clubs!! These clubs were my hubby's Louis equivalent! Oh, he was devastated! His Dad had just bought the clubs for him less than 6 months prior... ~ Hubby, his Dad and his brother all get together and play golf, it's one of their 'things', even tho they each live 5 hours from each other they often pick a golf course somewhere in the middle and all meet for a weekend of golf, it's a big deal for them, it keeps them connected. Hubby is a not the best player (that would be his Dad) but he has a serious "Tiger Woods swing" and can hit the ball like crazy, which FIL is very proud of and brother jealous of :) anyway...FIL bought hubby a SERIOUS driver (custom made driver... $$ boo-ku bucks $$) hubby is tall and FIL wanted him to have the 'best of the best' to highlight his swing and bought these for him as a special B-day gift. This driver even had a name: the "Big Dog"!! **I spent 4 weekends going and calling every pawn shop in our area searching for that "Big Dog" and never did find it! It was a terrible feeling, highlighted for me by the fact that this wonderful human being only had to turn a doorknob and would have been standing 15 feet from my teenagers bedroom!! It was down right SCARY! Ironically this prompted me to buy a dog seeing how we didn't hear anything and they had to have been in there for a good amount of time to move all that stuff! So now, 3 years later we have the most wonderful "Big Dog" of our own and we LOVE him like crazy!

Sorry you had to go thru this sister, there is no fixing it, it just sucks!

File a police report. Contact all credit card holders and the bank.
The withdrawals and charges should be reversed with proof of a police report.
The other items should be replaceable under your insurance - contact your homeowners insurance and our car insurance. It should be covered under both.

In addition to your homeowners ins., contact your vehicle insurance carrier too. I'm so sorry you are going through this - it sucks! My car got broken into in my driveway - TWICE in a month.

I had my car broken into too. They actually didn't steal anything but they went through pictures I had in my car. It was surprising to me how violated I felt even though I was not personally attacted and it was not my home that was broken into.

Best of luck clearing this up. It was a despicable thing for somebody to do. I hope some how they catch them!
