Please help!!!!!!!! Somehow last milk got spilled in my car on my back seat i didnt know about it but started to notice the smell i tried febreeze and a few other fresheners and carpet cleaned and the smell is still there so i took the seat out and found the spioled milk so i carpet cleaned the seat and the carpet with odoban and the smell is still there i dont have the money to replace the seat and carpet in the car so i am really hoping someone knows how to get rid of the smell it is horrible!please help i have so many air fresheners in there right now and nothing has worked.
I just wanted to thank everyone for thier advise and let you all know how i got the smell out. when i was told to try charcoal i didnt think it would work but i figured its cheap why not try so i bought a small bag opened it up and put it in the back seat and a cpl hrs later checked it out and guess what! no more smell!
I worked at a car dealership a long time ago. They used Smells be gone to get rid of cigarette smells. And thats a hard one to remove, so maybe it would work for milk as well. It's made by a co in bermingham MI, and is supposed to be nontoxic.

Sorry H., but the only way I found to remove that smell, & yes, it happened to me, is to have it professionally cleaned. It costs about $30 or so, but what other choice do you have? Spoiled milk is the one thing that keeps smelling worse every day. Hope you can get it in right away. Just look in the phone book under car detailing or car wash. Good luck!

I have always had great success with odo-ban getting rid of that awful sour milk odor. One thing I did notice on the bottle is it states to spray the area (for stronger odors I would saturate it a little) and it must stay damp for 10 min. Hope this helps.
use a table spoon or 2 with water in a bucket was the whole area down. put baking soda on thewet area let dry. vacumn up the backing soda and if it still smells febreeze it. you could also do vinigar and water. good luck. If its onthe baby car seat take the cover off and wash it in the wash machine than wash the seat with lysol.
H.; go to the pet section in like walmart and buy urine out, or cat smell remover spray not sure the name of it, its like 5 dollars a bottle, and it works on cat urine, im sure it willwork on spilled milk i like it, and im happy to tell you it works, enjoy life, D. s
Ha! We had a vomit incident in the car earlier this year with my son and tried everything to get rid of the smell. We finally had the car detailed and they shampooed the carpet and seats and used an Ozone machine overnight in the car. The total cost was $70 (we called around for pricing first). You will easily spend that on air fresheners and cleaning products (that won't work...) so you might as well go straight to detailing! It worked instantly... no more vomit smell. Good luck!
Try using Borax. Sprinkle dry Borax on it and let it sit overnight. If that doesn't work then try spraying it down with distilled vinegar and let it dry. If that doesn't work then I'm not sure anything would work. Maybe putting a chunk of charcoal in your car might absorb the smell also. I wouldn't keep using all those chemicals that you have to breath while in the car... especially those little lungs of your children!

I couldn't help but laugh at this request because my name is H. and I had the EXACT same thing happen to me last year. It was AWFUL! I did the same things you've done, even down to having the van carpet professionally cleaned. And for anyone out there who thinks Lysol "kills odors," don't even go there with spilled milk on carpet! My kids were literally hanging their heads out the windows to escape the even worse smell I'd created trying to "fix" the situation.
Now the one product that finally worked for me was OdoBan--and it worked GREAT. The only thing I can guess with your situation is that somehow, you may have missed some crevices or the milk dripped through to somewhere you haven't attacked with the OdoBan yet. But once you attack it with the OdoBan, it really should work. I'm so sorry this happened to you--I know how awful it is. Good luck!
Vinegar. I use it on my kid's clothes after they throw up. I also used to use it on my daughter's stuffed animals. She sucked on their ears and they were rank! Nothing would get the smell out until I used vinegar. Worked like a charm.
Many of the car detail shops have an o zone process. They can run it in your car and it should penetrate the smell.I know it can be used to get rid of smoke and pet odors. You can buy one of these machines, but they are pretty expensive. I believe the cost of the treatment would be nominal, especially if it worked.
try using white Vinegar it works on most everthing from dogs that had peed on the rug to working to remove hair off your clothes in your wash I use vinegar like its water for everthing and its cheap its no more then 2.50 for a gallon of it. I am on very cheap buget and I use this ever time I wash instead of softener and we use it with the pup when they are learning how to go out to potty
Try putting a bag of charcoal in the car. It worked for my friend whose husband forgot that he left a bag of fish in the trunk. There is something called an odor eater that you may be able to rent. Just be careful on how strong you set the controls. It ate the rubber mat in my son's trunk, but it worked in a house that had flooded.
Detailing the car may be just what you need but another thing I would do first is change your cabin filter. There is a filter under your hood that most cars have that filters the air moving around the car. You'd be suprised what a difference it makes just changing that! When I got my "new to me" van a few years ago I wasn't even aware there was a cabin filter. When ever I got in my van it smelled like farm animals. It was gross!! I finally called the dealer and he chaged it and everything smelled fresh after that. Both our van and my husbands car have one. It would be worth checking if your car has one and see if it helps.
Try a solution of vinegar and water.
Hi H., Listerine, this is what apt. owner's use too clean out apt's with cat urine on the carpet. Put in spray bottle, spray then clean with sponge or steam cleaner. You could also try OdoBan, found at most Sam's Club stores. Hope this work's for you.
Hi, my son threw up in my car several times on a trip home from out of state....probably 3 times in a row before I could get the car pulled over....it was HORRIBLE. HOWEVER---I went to the grocery where they rent rug doctor systems and bought their odor remover--it worked!! I cleaned the vomit up ( you could clean your seats with a 50/50 water vinegar solution and let it dry. Then apply the odor remover. I remember that you actually just apply it and leave it and then go back some time later and apply water to reactivate the oxidizing effects. Anyway, it was a lifesaver for us, really it was. And it's cheap!!!
If love Fabreeze but if that din't work, I'd coat it with baking soda (generic, cheap stuff is just as good), vacuumm, repeat, and on these nice days, open up your car and let it air out. Do this whenever you can. I had a place that soured and did all this and it worked.
