Slow to Wlak

So, my daughter was walking by the time she turned one and my son isn't. He will be one in just about a week. If we hold his hand he will take steps but has yet to try on his own. He will also walk the length of the couch or coffee table while holding on to it. Are there any tricks to get him to walk?

What can I do next?

Yep, the trick is super simple: WAIT....until he is ready. Boys tend to be a bit slower at things, sometimes. So give him at least until he is 14 or 15months. Meanwhile continue to walk him holding his hands, thats great. And let him cruise around the furniture. He will venture out and take steps on his own before you know it.
No worries, he is fine. :)
ps and remember once they start walking they are into wayyyy more things, so dont push it, lol.

He will walk when he is ready. Boys are many times slower to start as they are larger and have more bulk to move around. My son was 13 months and my daughter was only 11 months. Even up to 15 months is still in the normal range and not cause for concern. Once he starts there will be no going back. Enjoy the fact that he is containable still.

I think it sounds like he's right on track. Boys tend to learn to walk later than girls so remind yourself not to compare him to how your daughter developed. My son took his first steps without any assistance at just over 13 months and from that point on, there was no stopping him. He's now 2 and his development has been wonderful and exactly where he should be. Hang in there - I know it's easy to feel as if it should be happening sooner (I remember kind of feeling that way), but it sounds like he's right where he should be. No worries:)

My first son walked early, about 10 months old. My second son didn't start walking until he was almost 14 mo. And my daughter started right at one. He'll get there so don't worry too much. They are all different and go at their own pace.

Mom of three-ages 7,5 and 15 mo. old.

Do not worry about him not walking yet. If by the age of 18 months he is not, then talk to his doctor. He will up and walk one day, don't rush it.

Don't worry. My son didn't start walking until he was 14 months. My doctor told me the average age for children walking is around 15 to 16 months and some children don't even start to walk then. Have no fear, he will walk when he is ready.

We have similar situations- I have a 6 year old daughter and a 2 year old son- I thought that because he was the 2nd child he would walk faster because he would want to do what his sister did- no so. She walked on her 1st birthday- he walked at 14 months. As with everything they do they all do things differently- boys are so different! I think that he took a little longer because he was refining his skills- he is more physical that she ever was- she fell a lot and still does but he rarely falls and can run like the wind!
