I am almost 6 weeks, and at my ultrasound they said the baby has a slow heartbeat (under 100) . They actually just saw the heartbeat on the second ultrasound. (the first was too early to see one) . I am sooo worried about this baby. Has anyone experienced a slow heartbeat in the early stages? I am due for another u/s next week.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I lost the baby. The heartbeat went to 88 then 104 and then dropped down to 80 with no growth. It was trying to hang on but couldn't make it. I feel so sad and empty . Thank you for all your help. God Bless

Wow, I can't believe that your doctor has already done 2 u/s and you are getting a third done next week. I would suggest just trying to relax after this one and not have another u/s unless something is seriously wrong or you get to 20 weeks. I think at this point in time you are just stressing yourself for no reason whatsoever (this is also why my doctor won't even do an initial u/s until you are at least 8 weeks along). Good luck!

My daughter did not have a slow heart beat in the early stages but she did during my last month or two of pregnancy to the point that they kept monitoring me in the OB's office and even had to go to labor and delivery a couple of times to be monitered for a coule of hours in their. I was finally induced only about a week early, but guess what her heart is just fine! One of the nurses in L&D told me that a lot of times their heart rate during pregnancy does not necessarily correlate to their heart rate after they are born. I hope that helps, I really don't know much about heart rates in the fetus but I am sure your OB will monitor your baby carefully to make sure eveything will be ok!

why are they doing so many ultrasounds??? I didn't have my first u/s until I was atleast 8 weeks along with both of my children. Anyway, just try not to stress, stressing makes everything worse.

I am sorry it is so stressful. Just remember you don't have to have all those ultrasounds - they don't help the baby - and she is so little they don't know things for certain. I know we all just 'want to know' as much as we can - but life is a mystery for all we can discern.

National Geographic made a fantastic DVD "In the Womb" which is amazing to watch - to see each stage of the little ones development. At six weeks her eyes, ears and mouth have begun to form - and, yes, she has a regular heart beat - her spinal column is apparent.

The chest and abdominal cavities are continuing to form. Your baby’s jaws are appearing, the lung buds are forming, circulation is being established.

The tiny buds that form the arms will suddenly appear this week. Liver and pancreas buds are also present. The aorta of your baby’s heart is forming.

This week marks a critical period in the development of your baby’s gastrointestinal tract - his intestines are beginning to form from a portion of the yolk sac.

All the fear you feel - matches the love you already have for your little one who you cradle and protect inside of you. Allow yourself to love the little one - even if it is for only a few short weeks. My husband spoke to each of our babies in the womb each night.

With love and hope,
E.

Worry when you are feeling life and the baby has a slow heartbeat. A 6 wk ultrasound. How many does your doctor want you to get? Either you will remain pregnant or you won't. There is nothing you or the doctor can do. Start reading books about conception and pregnancy. Here's the truth 144 pregancies begin but only 100 wind up in a birth. The others are either defective or carry a disease and so the body miscarries. No problem you conceive again. Talk to women who have children to learn how many miscarriages they had.
If you are young you have 20 years in which to have children. If you are 38 and more at least you know you can conceive.
You want a healthy baby. Right! If this one is healthy do not fret make yourself calm. If it is not relax nature will take care of matters.

That happened with me at my six week ultrasound. When I returned a week later, the heartbeat was normal. This is common, so I suggest you try to relax--I know it's hard, but things will probably be okay.

I had my six week dating ultrasound and saw a heart rate in the 80's. Because I was leaving for a trip to England my OB wanted another US before I left so we did one 2 days later and found no heartbeat. I had a D&C the same day so I wouldn't miscarry while abroad. My dr said that this is very common and means nothing more than genetic abnormalities that would not allow sustained life. As sad as it was I felt better knowing it happened at 6 weeks than 22 or later. I did have two very easy very healthy pregnancies before the loss and my husband and I are still hoping for baby number 3. Best advice is to stay calm and take each day as it comes. Wishing you a positive outcome!
