Sleep Question for 7 Month Old

I have a (almost) 7 month old boy. He will not sleep in his crib unless he has a pillow. The pillow goes the full width of the crib (so no gaps). Is this okay? Is SIDS still a factor? He can roll, but doesnt do it too often. He does not roll if there is a pillow. I have tried the "wedge" pillows for infants but he just slides off them. If the pillow is a bad idea- Does anyone have any suggestions?

What can I do next?

Easy solution...put it under the fitted sheet and mattress pad (will save it from some of that spit-up too!!!). We do that in our son's toddler bed so it doesn't move on him and he can't get trapped under it, but still lets him sleep on it. If the regualr size pillow doesn't fit well, we bought a travel size pillow at Target which fits great or you may have to sew together 2 sheets together if he will only sleep with the big pillow!!! As far as safety, I figure if he's been sleeping on it fine so far and it's helping him sleep, I'm all for it! Just check on him a few times at night and use your gut. Good luck!

Let him have a pillow! If he can roll then he will be fine. Once we gave our son a pillow he started sleeping through the night.

Our baby girl was similar. I think the pillow is okay if it's under the mattress. What we did to break her of the habit, was pad the bed. We put a fluffy, crib-sized, quilt under her sheet, folded in half. It was fluffy still, but not so much that it covered her nose. First time she slept beautifully. It was the first time she had happily taken a nap in her crib in almost 7 months of life. It's been a month now, and she sleeps just fine without it. We just used it to help transition. Hope that helps! Her favorite place to nap is still my husband's pillow! :)

Having a pillow is very unsafe at his age.
He will sleep without it, it will just take time and patience.
Laying him on his back is probably a non issue as he is old and strong enough to flip himself over. But having ANYTHING including bumpers, stuffed toys, stuffed animals or pillows is a huge no no.
He could very well get stuck and face down and that is bad news.
All you can do is lay him down, maybe try laying him on his tummy (if he can roll over himself) and do it on a flat surface and just keep doing it. He will sleep, it is just going to take time and he has a bad habit of having a pillow.
Your best advice should come from your Pediatrician. I can say personally I didn't let my kids have pillows until they were in big kid beds at 2. It isn't worth the risk at all, not to mention they can use that pillow to stand on and flip right out of the crib!!
Just start getting him used to not having it, habits are alot easier to break at this age then later. Just be tough about it and do not cave.
