So What Happened?

Wow. What a variety of loves and hates! I guess we will just have to go to the store and lay on one in many different positions and then maybe try the 30 day trial. I have a bad back so I HAVE to have something that firm and my husband likes the bed softer..soooo...thanks you everybody for your responses!

My husband and I have had a king size for at least 3 years now. I think my husband would give me up before the bed. What was really nice about the bed was while I was pregnant, I could adjust the bed as I needed it (that any a Snoogle pillow). Look at their most popular model - don't bother with the pillow top ones - the pillow tops don't hold up as well.

I do not have one personally, but stayed in a hotel (I think it was Hampton Inn)over the summer and slept in one and it was not very comfortable. I would suggest trying that first before buying one. I think that it is the Hampton Inns that have this as a standard bed in their rooms but you could find out what hotel has them by going to travelocity or something and reading the hotel descriptions.

We have one and purchased on the basis of a few of our friends raving about them. Well, I am not impressed. We have had ours for a little over 2 years now and I still I haven't found a number that makes me comfortable. My husband has, but I haven't. We have recently had a problem with the foam insert in that they put between the two air mattresses. It sags and is causing us to lean towards the middle of the bed. Just not comfortable. We are talking about maybe trying out a memory foam mattress..again my sister raves about hers. My son has a memory foam type thing on his bed and I find it comfortable. I wouldn't by another sleep number. Good luck on your search for a bed...it's such a large investment to buy it and not like it. I think they give you a 30 day trial period. Why not try it and see if you like it.

My husband and I bought ours a year ago and love it. I have a physically demanding job and when my back is hurting I can just increase the number and you can feel your back pain go away. It was great when my husband injured his back. His number was 100 for a few weeks while doing physical therapy and when he was healed he was back to his soft mattress. He likes soft, I like firm. This was a great compromise. I've never had trouble with the middle insert. We can still cuddle fine. There is an incline if there is a large difference between your numbers. That can't be helped. It is easy to setup. There is a risk-free 30 day in-home trial period. With the memory foam mattresses, if you need it cool to sleep, these are not good. They insulate and trap your body heat. That was a major reason for our choice in the sleep number vs the memory foam. Good luck! You can try the beds at the store in Edison Mall. We have the 5000 model.

Hello T.,
I have had a sleep number bed for about 3 years. My husband and I love it, wouldn't trade it. As a matter of fact, a salesman for a Posturpedic Beds called me. When I told him I had a Sleep Number bed, his response was,"Well, I guess I'll talk to you in about 25 years", and hung up.
I had a lot of back problems and tried several different mattresses. Nothing worked, so I tried the Sleep Number and it is the best ever.
When we go window shopping in furniture stores and I see someone trying out mattresses, I go over and tell them, get a Sleep Number. You won't regret it.
I don't know what you want to know about it, but, you can change the firmness. Sometimes I put it on 50 and sometimes on 60, it depends on how I feel. Ours is the #5000, King.
AHHHHHHHHHH! feels real good after a hards days work.
Hope this helps. Let me know what else you need to know.
Sandi

My husband and I like our sleep number. It really cuts down on our tossing and turning. It is definitely not a bed you want to purchase if you enjoy cuddling with your partner while you sleep as there is a slight bump between the two sides. We do our cuddling before falling asleep and then roll over onto our respective sides and go to sleep. You do not have to buy special sheets. We put a memory foam mattress topper on ours and it is very comfortable. Hope this helps.

We do and we hate it!. I think unless you buy the most expensive one the one that has the thick pillow top it is not worth it to buy one. If you are inthe Naples-Bonita Springs area you can buy ours! Good luck.

Can you say Ahhhhhhhhh?? The Sleep Number bed was the BEST investment my husband and I ever made! We have had it for 3 years and I was hooked the 1st week. It is amazing to think we managed to sleep in the same bed before....our numbers are completly different. I have back/neck problems so it is wonderful to be able to adjust the bed when I need to....and it was great when I was pregnant. You do have to be a little patient in the beginning until you figure out what number works best for you. Good luck!

Hi,

I work at a Radisson in San Juan, Puerto Rico and they have Sleep Number Beds as one of their Standards. Many people enjoy the beds since you can adjust it to your preference. I had the chance to try out the bed and I felt very comfortable. I believe you will too.

My husband and I love ours. If I had to start over with a new one, I would probably get the pillowtop. Without it the bed does have a "dip" in the middle which makes it difficult to cuddle.

We can adjust the firmness/softness according to our needs. Some days after being on my feet all day, I need the bed softer and boy does that feel good!

They have a money-back guarantee, so why not give it a try. Also, if you get on their mailing list, they sell refurbished store-models and returns for a discounted price. This is how we bought my daughter's. I think we got it for almost half the retail price and it still came with a warranty. They have another sale going on right now. I got a mailer the other day. To give you an idea of pricing, they have a Sleep # 5000, Queen Pillowtop for $899. The Sleep #3000, Queen Plus for $499. That's a deal!

Hi T.,

My parents have one of these and everytime I go north to visit I love to take a little nap on it!! When I was pregnant with my son we took a road trip there and I was having horrible back pain, the sleep number bed helped with that discomfort as well. I do not own one, but I love there's! I like my bed very very soft, my husband likes his firm so it would be a great solution. However I know they have had some issues with the bed and it has been very expensive to repair. Also, the sheets are very expensive to purchase because you have to buy special ones. I know they have a 30 day in home trial so that is nice. We have a store near us so we have been able to try them in person. As for cost I did a comparison and found that they are no worse to purchase than a high end mattress. Good luck.

Hi T.,

I have only tried them in the store and I fell in love with them. It's good to hear other people's input, though!

I wanted to let you know that there is another manufacturer that makes a bed similar that claims to have higher manufacturing standards and their mattress is topped with memory foam. These are less expensive. If you are seriously considering it go to ebay and look at the Sleep Comfort models of mattresses. They are new and I think that is the only place they are sold.

Good luck in your search!

Yes! My husband and I have had one for about 3 years. I have had neck surgery, and my husband has a bad back, so both of us benefit from this bed because we can adjust it to our specific need. I recommend it.

My husband and I absolutely love our Sleep Number Bed. He is a 45 and I'm a 35 (sleep numbers). We love it so much, that we have trouble sleeping without it. My advice is to go to the store and try it out. They'll tell you your number with a computer generated bed. It's great! Hope it works for you! :)

T.,

My husband and I had one and got rid of it immediately after we recieved it. Luckily we did not pay for it, it was given to us. It is very uncomfortable especially if you cuddle with your sleep partner. There is a foam barrier that separates the mattresses and that gets in the way always. I would not waste your money.

My husband and I got a sleep number 5000 (I think?) about a year ago. We got the foundation and the legs to go with it too since we didn't have the right frame to put it on. We loved it at first till it started having problems. At first it was the air pump that went out then one of the air chambers developed a leak. The air chambers in our bed never keep the same amount of air in them, and even though the remote says it's still set on the same number, I can tell it's not. Also, if you have one side set firmer or softer than the other side, it makes the bed feel really uneven therefore makes it uncomfortable for the person on the firmer side, because it feels like you're going to fall off onto the softer side. My husband and I don't like the bed, and wish we would have just saved our money and spent it on a really nice mattress that would have lasted longer than this one did. Right now we are just waiting for our income tax refund so that we can go buy a different bed. In my opinion, don't waste your money on this item. If you have more questions about it, or want to buy it from us, let me know.
