What can I do next?

If you can find the actual spot of where the skunk sprayed used this

1 quart of 3% hydrogen peroxide formula (from a pharmacy)
1/4 cup baking soda
1 tsp. liquid soap

Mix together and apply.

Unfortunately, I don't think there's a good answer for you - here's what happened to my in-law's neighbor. Their dog got sprayed in the face by a skunk, so he immediately ran in the house and jumped on the leather couch and started rubbing his face on it trying to get it off. It reeked! They called everywhere and nothing could be done to fix it because it's leather. Finally they were told that in a month's time, the smell would lessen by half, and after two months, it would be gone. (Can you imagine? Two months! I think I would have had to get rid of the couch!) The suggestion about tomatoes is true if it's fabric you can treat, but for your situation where it's just in the air, you'll probably just have to wait it out. Good luck!

Good luck with that one we had that happen to us one time and it took forever to get it out. I really have no advice cause everything we were told to try did not work. After having this happen I can't hardly stand the smell of skunk anymore, the smell always seems worse than normal. Best of luck I know it is not fun!!

I would try airing out the house, some fresh air blowing through can do wonders. If all else fails I would try some febreeze or maybe Oust, Oust claims it is an air sanitizer, I grew up with a mom who swore by Lysol , but I guess Lysol is for surfaces. I like Oust, I use it in my foyer where the litter box is, I hate the idea thatthe first thing a person would smell is a hint of litter box = ) I can imagine the oder of skunk is pretty unpleasant, I hope you find a solution = )
Have a great day

You can call or go to Graingers at 33rd and Kansas Ave and they carry a product called Kil Odor and it really does what it says and instanly. It comes in a variety of scents and there is one for smoke. I use it at work to get rid of the smell of burnt popcorn and I gave some to a woman who's dog got sprayed by a skunk and she said that it worked.

You may need to open the windows, turn on some fans, and light some candles. Skunk smell can be pretty tricky to get out of a house.

R.,

Having grown up in the country, I can tell you that tomato juice will naturalize the smell. If you can find the spot outside where the skunk sprayed, you could dump some juice on it and it would help it to go away. (If hubby has a sprayer it works best if sprayed on this way)

Good Luck,

N.

PS - shouldn't be too hard to find the spot it sprayed - just follow your nose!

I agree with all the mama's that have replied so far! Also try putting out a bunch of those freezer baking soda boxes. It might day a couple of days but, they should absorb the smell. Good Luck!
