My daughter is 7yrs.old and over the Thanksgiving she had symptoms of a UTI and I put her in a warm bath with vinager. I filled the tub up just past the top of her private and let her sit for a few minutes. It seemed to help her.
I was at the doc's office with both my kids this morning. My 5-year-old son with symptoms of a upper respiratory infection that's only gotten worse over the past 2 weeks. My 3-year-old daughter with symptoms of a UTI. (I've had my fair share of these and I know all too well how awful they can be, at 19 I had to have a urethra dilation procedure) They were both given antibiotics, but doc said my daughter's culture came back suspicious. There will be further testing on her sample (OMG .. she got so excited about peeing in that cup) and I'm to call back tomorrow morning. In the meantime, he's treating it more like vaginitis than a UTI. He instructed me to give her sitz baths with baking soda ... has anyone else ever heard of this? I've never done one at home, and I don't really want to run out to the store to purchase the equipment if there is another way.
Thanks to all for the advice. Doctor's office confirmed a UTI. I've been cntinuing the meds and putting her in the tub with just enough warm water and the baking soda. Also, I've been letting her wear a long night gown and no panties to bed at night. We've also been reinforcing wiping, at the house she'll come out and ask me if she's doing it right. She's been doing really well and I asked her this morning if her pee-pee hurt anymore and she told me no, it was much better.

Hi B.,
Sounds like these ladies gave your great advice! I was told to use baking soda and warm water for a sitz bath. It helped me tremendously after the birth of my child. Hope both the kids get to feeling better :)

Hi B.,
How unfortunate for your daughter. I too suffer alot from UTI's, and Kidney infections. Sitz's bath will do wonders for her irritation and help her heal quickly. Teach your daughter (not to say you don't)why it is important for her to wipe correctly after she goes to the bathroom. Buy her only cotton underwear and have her change twice a day. In the morning and in the evening. This will help her "air out" in case she doesn't wipe. Also when you are at home have her wear no underwear at night prior to bed (usually have her wear a long nightgown with a robe) this to will help her "air out". At least until she gets older. If she persists in having UTI's or bladder infections, have see a specialist, just to ensure there is no other condition going on. Good Luck and I hope the kids feel better. Happy Holidays.
Hi B.,
If you go to www.ask.com and type in "sitz bath", you'll get all the information you need. It looks like you can use a regular tub and hot water, but you can ready everything you need there. I tried looking it up just to be sure and a number of links came up.
Good luck!!
you don't need any special equipment for a sitz bath, and if you do get the actual thing, it would be hard to keep her still for the 15 or 20 minutes. all you need to do is put about 3 inches of water in the bottom of the bathtub and have her sit in it, and change it twice during each session. my obgyn advised me on that method for myself, since i'm a big girl, and i found the sitz bath sit to be very uncomfortable.
Hello. A sitz bath is just the bath the doctor gives you if you had a child vaginally. I would suggest ebsom salts they cure everything. A cool or luke warm bath with a cup if these will cure what ails you!
I had to do Sitz baths after I had my daughter, but the hospital gave me the little tub thing for free. Maybe you should talk to your Dr, or hospital, and see if they can supply it for you.
Fill a tub with water so that it covers the hip and reaches upto mid-abdomen. If possible, immerse the pelvic and abdominal regions in the sitz bath water with your feet immersed in another basin with water, which is a few degrees warmer.
When using hot sitz bath, the tub should be filled with water about 110o F. Stay in the bath for twenty to forty minutes and then take a quick cold shower or bath.
I got this from the net. Hope your little girl feels better soon, & you son too. Good Luck!
I wouldnt worry about going out and buying anything. Just fill the tub with only an inch or two of warm water and add baking soda. The soda is just to level out the ph so the bacteria cannot live. This is what I did after the birth of my first child.
Hope all goes well with you and poor baby. I know she is so uncomfortable!
take care,
B.
