Hello--have another question. How young is too young to start introducing a sippy cup? I put it up to my sons mouth for the fun of it and he started sucking. He loved it and I wasnt expecting that. Should I keep offering it or is that just totally ridiculous at 4 1/2 months? Also I put water in it and someone told me babies that young cant have water. Is that true? How old before they can drink water? Sorry I seem so clueless(he is very different from my daughters when they were babies) and thank you for your help!!!

What can I do next?

With both of my children I started sippy cups around 4 months and had to help them, but they loved it. I never had to 'break the bottle' and I always used water from the time my children were a month old. I never gave them juice and now at 7 yrs. and 2 yrs. old, they love water and don't really drink juice, except oj.

OMG! Call me silly then! I gave my daughters water from the time they were born. My doctor never said not too! As fars as the sippy I started my daughter out on her's at about 6 months but offered it in the months before that also. My daughter loved to drink out of a straw from about 5 months on.

I think you are doing well to introduce the sippy now. I waited until about 8 months to really try it and I think I should have started sooner for them to be more open to it. Water in a sippy is perfect. :)

The concern at this age is that you just don't want her replacing one liquid for another. As long as he is still nursing the same/taking the same amount of formula, it's fine. He just doesn't really need any water at this age is all. I wouldn't give it to him often. But it is a blessing that he likes it so much.

Babies can have water. In fact, we were told to give our daughter water this summer (she was about 4mos old). We were outside a lot and it was hot. We didn't want her to become dehydrated. As long as you're not replacing a feeding with water, it's ok. I don't think there's any correct 'age' when you can start them on the sippy. If he drinks out of it, I say go for it!

Oh I think your doing GREAT! My son loves a sippy as well. I bf so he does sippy at daycare. We left the bottle behind without looking back! Keep up at the water too, it makes a nice change from milk.

Good job!

No, that is not true. Babies can have water to drink from the time they are born. They dont really like it most of the time. Especially out of a bottle. I introduced the sippy cup to my kids at about 6 mths I believe.

No, babies can have water and I started both my kids on sippy cups at 6 months. You are doing great. Good job to your little man for starting soon.

we started using a sippy with our son around that same age.
it is great. by 9 or 10 months, we were almost done with bottles completely. life is much easier this way. i read all these requests about mothers trying to wean their 1-, 2- and 3-year olds from bottles! that's nuts.
