Ok, my 6 month old takes one sippy cup at school during the day and one at night during dinner. I was wondering if I need to add more and take away more bottles? Is 2 enough? too many?

Oh, I'm sorry let me rephrase...he gets bottles in between sippy cups, I am asking if I should take away more bottles and add sippy cups or if two sippy's a day is ok!?!

What can I do next?

Is that all the fluid s/he is getting? If so, then yes, the baby needs more. If not, and it is sippies versus bottles, then that is a different question.

After update - that is really a personal decision. If you want to get him off bottles, and he is taking sippies, that is fine. There is no requirement for sippies at that age, though.

For a six month old, I am fairly certain they need a minimum of 24 oz of breastmilk or formula a day. I would imagine that your baby is not getting enough if it's twice a day. I don't think it matters whether its bottles or sippy cups- just to make sure your baby gets adequate nutrition. Maybe I'm unclear what's in the sippy cup.

Well it seems as though it is a decision you are going to have to choose as to what is best for you and your child...do you want to wean your LO off of the bottle if the sippy cup is doing well? Here are some ideas that might help you out:

How much is he getting in each cup? and what is IN the cup? if your feeding formula/breast milk, I would say it doesn't matter what he drinks it out of, as long as he's getting it... I would let him keep some of his bottles, just because the sucking is comforting to babies. But if it's juice or water, I wouldn't give any more than the 2... I give my 6 month DD 2 oz of very diluted juice in the morning with breakfast, and at night with dinner. pretty much when I give her solids. Other than that she only gets breast milk.

The biggest concern with the sippy... make sure your baby is able to maintain their weight. IF they reduce how much they are drinking that will be the only problem. Some kiddos stop drinking as much formula (that is what my pediatrician told me with child #3.)
Best of luck to you!

Being an infant daycare provider, state law says I have to hold a child while feeding them a bottle until they are at least 6 months old, some states it's longer... how in the heck can a school/daycare get away with sippies at that age - just wondering?

It is completely up to you as long as your child is getting that amount needed (which you can get from your pediatrician because I just can't remember that long ago). My first didn't like any sippy so almost never used one until he was over 1 yr. old. There isn't a "too much" or "not enough" as long as he is drinking from one or the other.
