I have a sinus infection and the right side of my face hurt when I am yawning or open my mouth wide. I also have a sore throat from postnasal drip, watery eyes. fluid in the left ear and pain in the eyes/front head area. I have just started amoxicillin and hope to be better in few days but just wonder if there's any home remedies for alleviating the pain in my face muscles. Thanks.

What can I do next?

Yep, a heated face cloth. Mucinex used to be perscription, it's now OTC and wonderful for draining the mucus. Drink lots of water with it.

Wow...you have it good with this one! Facial pain and also pain in the upper set of teeth is very common with bad sinus infections and this one that you have sounds like a doozy! What will help you is two things....first, take some ibuprofen [Advil] and try to get some of the inflammation down. This also wards off pain and a fever if you have one as well. It's fine to take two Advil every 4-6 hours as needed for a few days until the antibiotics kick in. Secondly, use a warm washcloth and lay it on top of your face or the area that hurts. It will help soothe the problem and also start the sinuses draining better to relieve pressure. Most of this pain is from the pressure built up in the sinus cavity that causes inflammation and an aching and gnawing pain that is the pits! An over the counter decongestant is also very helpful. I happen to like Sudafed because it has a great track record for this type of stuff and is a safe and reliable medicine for sinus pressure. It really works! Feel better soon but just try to control your symptoms right now until the Amoxicillan takes over.

Try a cold pack, if that makes it hurt more, try heat instead, that should help it feel better. Also, take an anti-inflamatory like Advil and a good dose of a decongestant, that should help with the post nasal drip, congestion, AND pain. And sleep and fluids, lots of both or the medicine won't work well. Honey and lemon together actually does help a sore throat, so make some tea and add those.

Alternate heating pad and cold pack on your face.
Use a neti pot and rinse your nose out with warm saline.
Gargle with salt water.
You can also breath in steam.
Boil a pot of water then take it off the heat, put a large towel over your head and stand over the pot to steam your sinuses - be careful not to burn yourself.
A hot steamy shower is good too.
Stay away from decongestants - they make the mucus thicker and harder to expel.
You want an expectorant - like Mucinex - that will thin the mucus out and stay well hydrated.
Hope you feel better soon!

Try getting in the bathroom and turning on the hottest water. Shut the doors and put a garment across the bottom to keep the cool air out. Let the bathroom steam up really well. Do this several times per day. Also take a hot soapy shower at least once per day. This washes off the allergens and gunk that are helping your allergies and sinuses to stay clogged up.

I suggest you go to a locally owned pharmacy and ask the head pharmacist if they carry real Sudafed. Not the fake stuff but real Sudafed. It opens the airways and helps the mucus get runny so it will drain out.

If you are taking anything that is an allergy med then you are helping your sinus infection to stay just like it is. Allergy meds dry up the mucus so it gunks up and sits there getting more and more infected.

If you have a netti pot use it often. I have had quite bad sinus infections for years and two years ago someone told me to try it. It really, really helps. Sometimes it hurts the first couple times but keep going, it gets better. I also use Mucinex and that seems to help also. I hope you feel better soon.

I rinse my nasal passage with salt and water. It also helps me to put a warm (steamy) towel over my face for a bit. (I dealt with sinus issues last week.)

Yes that happens with bad sinus infections.
Your teeth can also seemingly hurt too.
Good you are on antibiotics now.
Seems like you have a bad infection.

Warm packs.
