Similac Formulas

Well I'm sure most of you are aware of the Similac recalls because their formula may contains parts of beetles or beetle larve! NASTY... Well I used Similac with my 6 1/2 yr old and my almost 2 yr old and overall liked it, but this has grossed me out! I started my 6 1/2 yr old out of Enfamil, but she was just puking it up....I use to blame Enfamil for that, but I think it was just her because she had reflux and was colicky.. .Eventually had to put her on Alimentum and that worked great...then at 8/9 months we switched to regular Similac and no problems...
Anyway... I'm due with daughter #3 next month and I'm really questioning whether to use Similac again. Seems like they are always the ones with recalls. This bug thing has really made me sick.
A couple reasons of why i was partial to Similac was..... That they say they have the nucleotides, prebiotics (which i think Enfamil does too now), and they don't use palm olein oil (Enfamil does) which is usually shown to make babies absorb less calcium (reduced bone-mineralization) ... Those are the differences I've noticed. So my question is ... Are those things really a big deal...Should I just try Enfamil this time with the new baby? I've also noticed that Enfamil has a new "newborn" formula.. .Anyone try that?
Thanks Mommys!

I started out giving my now 11 month old daughter the liquid similac. I later decided to switch to the powdered formula which was great but had stopped when similac had a recall. I started using the Nestle/ Gerber good start & my baby hated it! Not only did she not like the taste, it also made her constipated. I switched back to liquid similac until all the recalled powdered formula were pulled from the shelves & it was ok to use it again.

I love that you ask for advice on formula, and still people just have to chime in about breastfeeding. Of course you know about it, but if you're anything like me, there's a perfectly good reason for why you use formula!

Anyway, I started my 4 yr old daughter on enfamil when she was born, and she had lots of issues. We switched to good start. She was fine the rest of the time on formula. So, when my son was born 9 months ago (after breastfeeding failed a second time) I immediately choose Good Start. So that' what I recommend!

I plan to use Similac with my second child. He will be born on Tuesday. You can check to see if the particuliar can of formula has been recalled by checking it on the website. I have a few cans and so far none of them are on the recall. NONE of the liquid forms of Similac are included in the recall just so you know.

I used Nestle(Now Gerber) Good Start with both of my children and they loved it. I would recommend Gerber Good Start. It was easy on their stomach and they weren't gassy or constipated.

A choice to breastfeed would solve all these problems, not that there aren't occasionally problems with this but virtually impossible for the milk not to agree with baby, and of course completely safe and sanitary. If you want assistance, the lactation consultant in the hospital can give it as well as La Leche League, where you can get help at any time - the sooner the better. A lot of moms switch over to BF'ing with a later baby for various reasons. And it's free too!

Have you considered breastfeeding? It's actually quite easy and you don't have to think about what is in it or how your baby will react.

i would suggest going with nestle good start. I think you will REALLY like it, and it doesn't have all the problems assciated as the other formulas. With nestle everything is broken down as far as possible, and that's why they don't have a 8 different types of formula in the similac and enfamil the difference in the variety of formula they offer is how far down the protein is broken. So in those brands you are aying more the more it's broken down, and the nestle is already broken down and you aren't paying more.
