Hi there! check out www.daywithyou.com. iT's a new video series for children that uses sign language, songs and play in each DVD.
Is it worth going to the Kindermusik or Gymboree signing classes, or can we do just as well on our own. Our little once knows about a half a dozen signs from playing around with it after reading a very simple baby signing book - Babytalk.

I think that the classes at Gymboree and Kindermusik are great for socialization, but you can ABSOLUTELY do it yourself just as well at home. There are lots of great books and videos that you can buy to help you in this. My son is 15 months and signs quite well. It has helped us SOOO much with communication to lessen the frustration he has.
We took the Kindermusik class, but in the end, I personally didn't think it was worth the $$ for us. I think working one on one with the child is a better use of time and resources. I've heard people rave about the show "Signing Times" and various dvds you can get at the library. There are also some really good websites that have the information for free. If you like classes, then you might see about trying one out for free first. Just my 2 cents. :)
My sister and her hubby taught their boys sign language at a very early age and it worked so well for them! Before they could talk, they could sign....I think that cut down on loads of stress in their house! They used books and the DVD's Baby Signing Time. We had our third munchkin this past summer and my sis and her hubby gave us a Baby Signing Time DVD for him for Christmas....I love it and so do my oldest 2, ages 2 & almost 5. They are learning it and use some signs when they talk to the baby. I have never been to a class but do highly recommend these DVD's!
There are so many things you can do at home. Sometimes the library has free things offered as well.
I found Gymboree mostly beneficial for me as a mom to have more face to face mom talk. It was also nice to see my daughter interact with other babies her age, until then she didn't have that.
