In February we are taking our 2 year old to Disney World, I was wondering if we need to bring a car seat on the shuttle? I heard that you didn't have to bring one but I want to make sure before we leave. Also this will be his first time on an airplane so if anyone has any advice it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

i have one of those car seat strollers that you see in the catalog one step ahead. it is fabulous for airports. I use the car seat in my 19 months plane seat and then have it hooked to the frame for getting around the airport. i highly recommend it. i am trying to remember the brand (kidz or trendz or something)

We took our 2.5 year old to Disney and did not need a car seat. She enjoyed sitting in her own space when there was enough room. Have fun!

No, to needing it for Disney Shuttles. If you take any cabs however, you can call the cab company and request a car with one, though it might take them a little longer to get to you for they only have a limmited amount of cabs equiped with them.
As for the Airplane. If you are paying for a seat for your toddler I beileve you are required to have a 5-point harness car seat to put them in. backless boosters are not FAA compliant and are not allowed to be used on the plane.

Hi J.,

How cool! We are going to Disney World in February too! We have gone for the past two years and I always questioned whether or not the car seat was necessary. So far we have traveled there with a 2 1/2 year old, then again when she was 3 1/2 and her baby sister was 5 1/2 months. I never brought a car seat or even an infant seat for either of them. The shuttle (Magical Express?) is a huge luxury bus and the transport buses are just a little smaller - you don't need car seats for either one. In fact, I don't remember ever seeing anyone use them while at Disney World. My advice for the plane would be to pack a few small new toys that your little one has never seen and keep them in your carry-on. Also, it is a great idea to bring along a portable DVD player (borrow one if you need to). We were grounded for two and a half hours last February due to a snow storm in Chicago before we eventually got transferred to a new plane plus the 2 hour plane ride to Orlando. My daughter was completely content to sit there and watch her DVDs and color. Kids get such a kick out of using the tray table as a place for their coloring books and crayons. My pediatrician suggested Tylenol a half hour prior to take-off. It helps with the cabin pressure. Some people recommend Benadryl, but that can totally backfire on you and actually stimulate your child instead. Tylenol worked great for us both times. Have a great trip to Disney!

Oh how very fun! We just went with our 3 year old in November - technically she was still 2 - turned 3 this month. We did not bring a car seat nor have ever on her other 5 times on an airplane. I have always brought a portable DVD, snacks and a coloring book and that seems to occupy her - but you have to know your kid and how antsy you think they'll be. To echo other responses, no need for the car seat on the Disney Shuttles. Enjoy your time! It's such a fun age to be at Disney!

Hi, we took my daughter to Disney when she was 3. You totally do not need it for the shuttles - she just sat on our laps or the seat between Daddy & I.

Your choices, don't deal with the carseat at all and leave it at home OR bring it for the airplane ride. Kids know they have to sit down in their carseat and can't get up! We are big travelers, and we didn't bring it when she was between 2 and 3, and alls she wanted to do was walk up and down the aisle, etc., etc!! You can only do that a couple times before the Flight Attendants get mad. If you don't want to bring the big, bulky carseat - you can even improvise and bring a booster!

Best of luck & have fun!!!! We are going again in May (my kids will be 6-1/2 and 2-1/2).

Take care!

My Mom lives in Florida. She says the laws change so often that it would be best for you to call your hotel (or email) and ask them what the shuttle provides (just to be on the safe side).

We went to Florida in September and rented 2 carseats for our children and never used them once. Some of the shuttles have carseats if you want to use them. We never used them, we just made sure the kids had seat belts and that they were as tight as possible. Hope this helped. Have fun.

Hi J.,
I used to live in Florida and we brought our toddler out there many times, I agree with the other responses about the shuttle there really is no need for it there. We made many trips up here to see family with our daughter since she was 3 months old. Your child will be in a carseat on the ride to the airport so I feel you should just bring it on the plane. The airlines would never allow you or your husband to sit without your seatbelts on during takeoff, turbulance or landing. I can't believe they allow children to do so. We have had many flights with so much turbulance that I was extremely thankful to have my daughter in a carseat and not on our laps. If your child falls asleep in the car the same will probably be true on the plane if you bring the carseat. This way you know your child is not bothering anyone else on the plane or the flight attendants. I would bring plenty of snacks, drinks, small toys, books, and we always purchased the headphones which my daughter loved to listen to the music. I also went out and purchased some new inexpensive small toys, crayons, coloring books and kept any toys from fast food places and wrapped them. Having things to unwrap and play with kept her occupied plus I had the added bonus of using the "gifts" as a tool if she started to get antsy. Once for a longer flight we brought a portable DVD player and a few of her favorite's, Wiggles, Barney, Dora. If they are in the carseat and you bring more than you think you will need to entertain them it will workout great. It's amazing how quickly the two and a half hour flight goes. I hope you have a wonderful trip!

Hi J.-
You should compile a bunch of questions, then call the wonderful people at Disney. They have customer service people just waiting to answer questions just like those. They may even have additional suggestions you haven't even thought of. The website will have Frequently Asked Questions, along with phone numbers.

Good luck and enjoy the happiest place on earth! It has been 2 years since we've been, and we can't wait to get back.
