I would have already taken my kids to the doc if they sounded like that. Please seek medical care for him now. He might only need a breathing treatment to break up the goo but he might need more.
Crackles as be breathe out. Had fever for only one day. Appetite is normal just bad coughing hoarse voice and noisy breathing .

Why are you asking strangers on the internet instead of taking your child to the pediatrician or urgent care?
It could be bronchitis or strep throat. I'd go see my pediatrician.
Crackling noise when breathing means he could be getting congestion in his lungs. This could lead to pneumonia which is serious. Better to have him checked out by the doctor now so they can put him on medication to clear it out instead of letting it run its course.
My opinion is if you really have to ask (especially strangers on the internet) then YES, go to your Dr and get your child checked out.
Why not with the flu as bad as it is this year. I don't understand why you would not at least call the pedi. Geesh
Please trust doctors more than than the internet! TAKE YOUR CHILD TO THE DOCTOR!
I am a HUGE fan of calling your doctor's office. It doesn't take long to have a conversation with the nurse, describe the symptoms and concerns, answer the nurse's questions and find out what the doctor thinks is best. Sometimes our doctor will have a suggestion and usually something to watch out for. She will almost always say, if this continues for x days or if y happens, call the office and make an appointment. Once or twice she has said bring him in to be seen. One time (and one time only - and my boys are 8 and 11) she said to take him to the ER. Turns out he had croup, but it was scary.
Call your doctor. Might save you a trip. Might not. But the reassurance is priceless!
Time to take him to see the doctor.
Flu has been pretty bad this year.
V., don't wait on issues like this. Call your pediatrician's 24 hour line. The doctor & partners & nurses have your child's records and medical history, and they know you better than we do. They could, if they felt it was important, even have you put your child on the phone so they can hear him.
Don't go on a site like Mamapedia where you have to wait for hours or days for answers from people who don't know your child and who have no medical background.
call your pediatrician and see what she recommends.
the crackle was always a red flag for me. but why not call first and see?

call the pedis nurse line and ask them. but i am thinking they might want to see the child so they will make an appt for you.
welcome to mamapedia, V..
How old is he?
How long has this been going on?
does he have a fever?
Does he say his chest hurts?
Why haven't you called his pediatrician?
Why ask a group of strangers instead of going with your gut??
