My daughter has Sept. birthday, and she will miss the cut off date for kindergarten. Is there anything else I can do, or do I have to wait for another year?

Thanks.

What can I do next?

You can probably fight it .But would you really want your child to be the youngest in the class? If your child is academically and socially ready for it I would do it otherwise I would wait another year.Good luck !

The district may have a early entrance process that you can go through, but you will usually be the one that has to pay for the testing that they do. It is something that you can find out just by calling and talking with the principal that you would have or call the district office. Depending on the outcome of the testing will determine if your child is ready to go to kindergarten or if another year would be a help for your child.

The cut off date stands at August 31 according to Illinois School Code laws. It may not be as bad as you think though. In my experience as a teacher even when parents feel their children are ready at this stage later they sometimes see struggles both academically and socially. As a mom I plan to hold back my three year old who is a August baby even though I am not required to do so.

My son also misses the cut-off (He has a Nov. B-day) He goes to Adventures in learning. They have a wonderful kindergarten program. You should give them a call- My son says and does things that just amaze me! Their phone number is ###-###-####. Ask for Maureen- She is the director. I'm not sure where in Naperville you are located but they have 4 branches. One in Naperville by the train station and the one in Aurora off of Ogden and Frontenac may be the closest for you- www.ecail.com

Good Luck-

I taught kindergarten for several years and there is a huge difference between the kids who just turned 5 and the ones who are turning 6. It is much better to be the oldest and more mature and ready for school, than the youngest and always trying to catch up. The Il law is 5 by or on Sept. 1. There is nothing you can do to fight it.

Sorry to say, but there is no way to get him in if he misses the cut off. You can always send him to a "pre-kindergatren" program. I know many places offer 3 & 4 year old pre-school and some offer a 5 year old program that is more like kindergarten.
