on friday i had 3 fillings (white ones)replaced on my lower left side. after my mouth wasnt numb anymore i felt that my bite was off and had some sensitivity on 1 of the 3 teeth. so on saturday (today) i went in and they adjusted or reshaped my filling. my bite went back to normal, but i still have the sensitivity to one of those teeth when i chew, and i also have some sensitivity on my upper teeth on the left side, but there was no work done to my upper side. before all this work was done i had no problems with sensitivity, but now i do and im concerned...will it go away after some time? is there anything i can do do help it go away using things from home. i really dont like the dentist office and would rather not go back if i dont have to. any suggestions?

What can I do next?

I have chronic sensitivity because I grind my teeth in my sleep. When the nerves are over-stressed, the teeth will be sensitive. If it doesn't go away soon, consider the idea that something like grinding might be going on. (I wear an over the counter night guard to protect from grinding damage.)

sometimes when people get cavities filled they will hit a nerve(happened to me)and if that is it , it will not stop until they deal with it.

Try some Sensodyne toothpaste. If nerves or dentine were exposed during the dental work, it really helps after about 2 weeks of use. Good luck!

I always have this happen! It can last from a few days to several months. My dentist said its normal for my teeth, and that it is what I do, and have always done, I hadn't realized it until he mentioned it, but he was right, (he's been my dentist since I was 4 or 5). The side they didn't mess with could be reacting from a shot, or from the wrong bite for a little bit. Give it some time, if it doesn't get better, then go back. (Since you don't want to go back right away and it probably will resolve itself, unless its really bad like Mommy of 1 said.) Good luck.

I used baking soda for toothpaste and it took 3 weeks, but I was worried, as well!

It can take up to 3 months.

It usually takes a little while for your mouth to adjust and the sensitivity to go away, I also recommend Sensodyne toothpaste, it works well.
