With my youngest, I just started reducing the amount of times they had a bottle. Now they make sippy cups with a top kind of like a nipple (soft and not hard). That helped out a lot. It gave the same feel, but it didnt allow them to keep sucking on it. He would have a sippy all day and a bottle right before a nap and bedtime. Eventually he didnt even notice that it was gone. It took less then 3 weeks.

When my son turned one, I decided to simply take the bottle away. We also quit formula at the same time. Anytime he was thirsty, I would hand him a sippy cup, or a cup with a lid. He also did very well (with assistance) using a cup with no lid and a small amount of milk/water, etc in the bottom of it. After about a week and a half he was back to drinking at the same level he was at on the bottle. You really just have to stick to it and not give in.

I would either reduce the amount of bottles each day til completely gone.

or

Just stop it cold.

Both are hard do but if you don't do it at one years old it's much much harder they start to really get attached. After a day or two they usually forget about the bottle and stop throwing a fit for it or freaking out. It's really hard on mom the first few days because you just want to give in but don't.It's similar to someone stopping smoking in my opinion.

I'm saying this because I was weak and gave in, my daughter had a nighttime bottle with water only til two and half. She didn't sleep through the night either, Mommy refilled her water in the middle of the night as the spoiled two year old moaned and asked for more. I So regret doing that. She's was also on the sippy cup til age 5 and has 3 cavaties. If I have more children were going to a regular cup early on. Her bottle was her security item. I so wish it had been a blankie instead.

They have these awesome sippy cups at Walmart where the part that goes in the mouth is the same material as a nipple and that could work as a transition. There the cheap sippy cups in multiple colors for like a dollar each.

I too only ever gave formula in the bottle. Everything else was in a sippy.

You didn't mention if she takes a sippy at all, but maybe start with getting her used to that by giving her water (or milk if you're doing milk) in the sippy. Once she gets used to using it, try putting the formula in the sippy too.

The morning and night-time bottles were the hardest for us to drop as they represented some security and snuggle time. zfinally just had to go cold turkey on those.

I am working on this as well with my nine month old. We are gradually putting half of his formula in a sippy cup and half in a bottle until he gets the full effect of drinking the whole amount from his cup. This seems to be working great so far and in about three days, he's almost fully got the hang of it. NUBY makes a great cup that is more like a bottle so the transition has been working so far.

Good luck!

I gradually cut out bottles for my son until he was down to just 1 bottle of milk before bed. I slowly descreased the amount in the bottle. Finally, one night when he was 18 months old, my husband said, "let's put your milk in a cup tonight". He did and hasn't had a bottle since. It turned out to go much more smoothly than I had ever thought!
Good luck!

I never allowed my kids to have anything but formula in their bottles. Juice and milk had to be in a sippy cup. They transitioned very well and caught right on and were off bottles within a few weeks of their 1st birthday.
Just be persistant.
