It is Friday, Dec. 15th, and my 12 year old daughter came home with a note from school, stating that I am in charge of putting together the Christmas party. The party is Dec. 21st. Any ideas? I don't even know where to start. Not only have I never done this before, but I have so little time. I have a small list of mothers I can call, to help in any way or to send something.

What can I do next?

Hi S.!
I have been a room mother for many years with my kiddos. Hope this helps...We always plan a craft, game and snack. The older kids, 5th/6th. like to do their parties all together in the gym or lunch room. they dont really do much but mingle and talk and snack. They feel they are too big for crafts and games. They do like little gift type things though. Even if its a goody bag with some candy. Its great to ask parents to donate food items if you have time, and a limited budget. Juice boxes are a wonderful item...they come self contained with the straw, cleanup is a breeze, and rarely any accidents.
Hoping this got some ideas going for you!

I highly recommend going to US Toy! They have a huge warehouse of craft kits and cheap favors that you can use for the party as well as paper goods and decorations. Usually some punch, holiday cookies, and a couple of fun salty snacks are good for the kiddos, and a craft or fun game is good. If I remember correctly, 6th grade is when the kids start to really hate organized parties and they prefer to just hang out and enjoy time off from everyday school stuff! Good Luck! :)

I am a PTA VP if you still need ideas I am doing this all the time matter fact I plan the entire schools this year elementary but close enough. I would do sugar cookie decorating cause even that age loves doing that then making snowman out of marshmallows and pretzels using the two different sixes licking them to stick them together and using the pretzels for arms then just put a small treat bag together from the dollar store of pencils stickers and candy, very simple yet the get a kick out of getting something. hope it works out for you
