my step son went to Dottie Lynn Rec Center last summer.
they are off Park Row on Norwood in Arlington.
Does anyone know of a good summer camp in the Arlington/Grand Prairie area? I need a camp that is available to cover workday hours, but offers a lot of interesting & fun activities for the kids. My son is 8 & I want him to enjoy the summer.

I would get a copy of Fort Worth Child magazine or Dallas Child Magazine. Or you could email or call them, they usually come out with a section of Camps for kids usually around this time of the year. Sorry, I don't have their website or phone number. I remember seeing it last year. You could also ask people at your school, church or work,etc...
Good Luck
Hello S.,
My daughter is 8 and she goes to the YMCA summer camp. They went somewere everyweek, like Palace of Wax, movies, chucky cheese, etc. She has asked if I can take her back. I would check at your local YMCA for information on there summer camp.

Camp Thurman in Arlington. I believe the web site is www.campthurman.org
My son loves it!
The GP YMCA does summer camp. It is affordable and they pack their weeks with stuff for them to do!
Boys & Girls Club, Elzie Odom Rec Center, YMCA
You might check out the Arlington Park and Recreation website to learn of their upcoming summer camps. My son loved them when he was little (now 18). They always have a good variety of activities for them at that age.
Camp Thurmond in Arlington. Been around for years & years. Christian based. Very popular with both public & private school kids in the area. Sign up early!
Give Girls Inc. a call at ###-###-####.
They have a summer camp at two different schools in Arlington.
The camp is for boys and girls.
I have snet my 10 year old daughter and nephew there the past three summers. Thay have had a blast. Thay go swimming twice a week, the movies, bowling, putt-putt. They go somewhere three days out of the week usually. The price is included in the weekly tuition, which is very affordable. They even offer reduced tuition to those who qualify. My kids went to the camp at Corey Elementrary and I think the counselors there are awesome. Snacks are provided and some years lunch.
Good Luck!
S.,
I cannot reccoment Camp Thurman any higher! It is located in central Arlington (off of 820 and Pioneer Pkwy) and is a great day camp. Check them out at their website.

Camp Thurman! www.campthurman.org My 4 year old went to Sunshine Camp last year which ended at 2. This year he is going all day. We signed up for 2 weeks! It is a Christian camp so there is Bible time each day. They do crafts, swim, perform skits and songs, zip lines, and more. Registration started a while back and spaces go fast so check it out. It is located in Pantego (Arlington) right off of Pioneer Parkway. We are also looking into YMCA camp. If you can get a copy of last Thursday's FWST it was the Summer Camp edition and there are ALL TYPES of camps listed. Science, art, sports, day camps, overnight camps and more. Good luck!
Hi S.,
I use to take my son to the YMCA-Camp Carter although it's in the west Ft. Worth area I'm sure they have YMCA over in your area. He was about 8 or 9 when he went there but they got to hike, played volleyball, swam and did all sorts of activities during the summer. Check it out it may be just what you are looking for.
Good luck,
J.
I also recommend Camp Thurman. I do know the Arlington recreation centers have great camps for the summer. You can probably sign up at the rec center closest to you.
