Does anyone have any suggestions for natural remedies for constant fatigue? I have battled with being constantly tired since at least my early teens, and now, as the mother of a very active toddler, am getting tired of it!! I would like to have more energy and not be constantly tired and/or sleepy. I would love to hear any advice from you wonderful women on resources, herbs, dietary supplements, dietary changes, lifestyle, etc. that can battle the problem of constant low-level fatigue.

I would get checked for sleep apnea. Several people I know were always tired and it turned out that they had sleep apnea (where you stop breathing in your sleep and so it wakes you up and you never seem to get fully rested) and once they started using an oxygen machine at night they felt much more rested and were able to sleep deeply through the night.

There are natural solutions to any medical problem, but you need to know what is causing your fatigue!

Have you been evaluated by a natural health care practitioner? Or an allopathic medical doctor? Do you have an idea of what is causing your fatigue?

You can message me for a recommendation to a practitioner. He's in Tucson, but he travels to the Phoenix area.

A great thing to try first is a B12 + B Complex injection.. that as well as a really great multi-vitamin really helps with my fatigue. I get them at Life Sculpting in Chandler for just $12. I have two suggestions! I have battled constant fatigue the majority of my life. I have found polarity therapy very very useful. I also find herbs helpful. Find a good herbalist as well as a polarity therapist for relief. FInding the cause of the fatigue is essential, and both can help you uncover it so you can move forward. Blessings to you!

I must admit, I do not suffer from chronic fatigue, but have battled mild depression. Which, for me manifests itself as exhaustion. I do agree with what some of the other mom's have already suggested. You really need to figure out what is causing the fatigue. Along with having your thyroid checked, have your hormone levels checked too.

I have found that B vitamins, natural sunlight (20 minutes tops here), cooking in cast iron (to battle anemia), exercising 3 times a week, a good bed, and learning to choose my battles and not concern myself with the small stuff (or stuff I have assigned to others) has made my life functional even when I'm tired and depressed. Good luck, and don't forget that fatigue is serious, in some cases sleep deprivation is used as a form of torture, so don't be hard on yourself. Fatigue is brutal and very real.

Have your thyroid checked first. If thats not it and its no other medical problem I would definitely say exercise at least for 30 minutes a day and stay away from proccesed foods. Eat the food pyramid way. I find I get most tired when I'm inside all day. Take your toddler outside, go hike some easy trails that are child friendly. There is nothing much more energizing than fresh air!!

If you are open to alternative approaches, I can recommend a couple of people who might be able to help. They do accupuncture, diet, nutrition, and other things depending on your issues. It's a different approach that can get a bit expensive, but I firmly believe the things they did helped me conceive after years of trying. Let me know and I will give you their information.

I would also recommend getting your thyroid checked if you haven't already.

Hi D.,

I don't know if you have seen a doctor or not, but usually these problems have to do with a health issue. I suffer from fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome and have learned alot about dealing with fatigue. Unfortunately, I have to take medications, but have cut way back on them because they have caused other health issues in my life also. Your best bet if you want to stay away from medication is to get blood tests on your levels of B12, Vitamin D and even a thyroid test done. These three issues all cause you to have fatigue if you are low on them. Maybe just a good vitamin will be all you need. It wouldn't hurt to get a B12 injection once in a while to boost your energy if that is a problem. They sell B12 drops that you put under your tongue that help faster than the vitamin form of B12 also. I do suggest that you see a doctor first and have these things checked first and I wouldn't wait too long because it could get worse medically.

After having my second child, I too experienced a constant lack of energy. I eat healthy and exercise on a daily basis but I was not getting the amount of sleep that my body needed. I changed the way I was eating and that lack of energy feeling went away. I started a strict food combining diet. Basically not mixing proteins and carbs and eating fruit when I feel the most tired during the day. It's working for me. E-mail me if you want more info.

I am not sure what you should do. But my first question would be "How much water do you drink?" From everything I have read dehydration can cause fatigue? Make sure you get those glasses of water down.

Hi. I have fatique problems as well. Through many years of trying to figure out how to make a difference, I have done the following and it does help: Drink a lot of water - I bought a bottle that has 64 ounces marked, so I can make sure I measure how much I drank. Eat healthy foods - the bad foods definately bring me down in energy. Take vitamins, especially B vitamins. Get exercise everyday. I also have sleep problems, so we bought a new bed that is really comfortable. I started sleeping on my back with a pillow under my knees. I also take a perscription sleep aid to get my body back on track and once I have had 2-3 good nights of sleep, I don't take it. All of this is a lot to do all at once, so slowly make the changes you need. Maybe start with drinking a lot of water - that really helps!
