My little baby/toddler boy now is wet every morning! He is using huggies overnights and those have worked up until now... but for the last week consistently he is waking up VERY early and I find he's all wet, poor thing. Any tricks that have worked for your baby boys?

I had the same problem. There are pads that are like sanitary pads but that wet through and which you place in the diaper. Mine are referred to as diaper booster pads. You can see a selection and order them online.

I have used the double diaper trick often, as my son drinks a TON of milk before bed. If I use a HUGGIES overnight and then a HUGGIES regular diaper on top of that, it does the trick. Most times, the second diaper will remain dry and that's the one I put back on him in the morning!

Try the next size up. Every time I have that problem it means it's time to move up to the next size diaper at least at night. :)

Can't stop him from peeing all night long, but I just use the next size up at night. I use our nature baby diapers that are biodegradeable, and since he's a tummy sleeper I put them on higher in the front.

Hello! It is a totally different approach, but .... we use bum genius cloth diapers at night. They have a material that goes against the skin which pulls away the moisture and locks it in pads you put underneath in the pocket. We put an additional cloth diaper inside the pocket to ensure our little man stays dry. We bought them online. I bought 3, that way I wash them every 3 days and just keep them in a separate little garbage can in TJ's room. Good Luck!

Hi N.,
What if you look into switching to cloth at night? Perhaps get one cloth diaper, perhaps a wool cover - or perhaps JUST a wool cover to go over the disposable (wool is what was used before plastic and disposables - my baby is in a wool cover overnight right now)

Water proof Mats are another solution - here is a huge visual directory of the many options available all over the world: http://tinyurl.com/waterproof-mats

Another idea is to start pottying him before sleep, and if he wakes at night, or if you hear him waking early and can get there - often wees wake them (they go into a light sleep to wee) and so less wees altogether may be enough for the disposable to take it. (http://www.parttimediaperfree.com/just-1-less-diaper.htm )

Another strategy people use is to boost up the disposable with a sanitary pad, or even a cloth booster - may be enough to get him through.

Also, consider hay-fever or teething - each make sleep lighter, and thus less anti-diuretic hormone, and so more pee volume. This may pass with emerging teeth or less pollen load in the air. At 17 months it could be molars making an impact!

Lastly, food sensitivities - anything new in his diet, something he craves, additives or salicylates or colours? Any of these could be causing an overload, which the body can be flushing out with weeing! (see http://www.fedupwithfoodadditives.info/ as a useful resource)

Keep fiddling with ideas - you'll find the right one for your boy.

HI there
We used to have the same problem with my little one. We went up a size in night diapers and we also used night inserts that look like pads. They are much cheaper than the night diapers. We get them at Babys r us and we've just been doubling up with the night diaper and the inserts. Hope that helps.

Did you try going up one size? My son wears Huggies Overnight one size larger than his regular diaper size and that is what works for us to prevent leaking.

Hi N.-

I found that While Huggies worked well for my daughter, we had leaks with my son. So I switched to Pampers for my son and we did end up going with the next size up. I did do overnight Pampers and that worked great for him.

Good Luck!

My kids were always one size larger than the recommendation on the package. I knew when they woke up wet that it was time to move up a size.

My daughter did the same thing as his age. I bought some absorbency pads(the ones of adult incontinence) and that did the trick.

use a waterproof bed or crib pad under him. You can find them on Amazon. I use them with my kids.
2nd- I usually change my son, 1 time during the night, to prevent a swimming-pool diaper and leaking. He does not wake either, when I do this. He keeps on sleeping.

The Huggies overnights are good... but still, it is not "waterproof" and it will get too full sometimes.

Or, use a size bigger diaper.

Good luck,
Susan

honestly, potty training for me was like night feeding a newborn. I woke my son up twice during the night till he told me he didn't have to go. Then I switched to once a night. He is now sleeping all through the night with his fun underwear. My son is now 5 so it has been a year and a half since he peed in the bed so it seemed to work. During the day, well, that's a different story. ha ha Good luck!!!!!

Hi,

We had the same problem, and the only thing that worked for us was to replace our son's before-bed cup of milk with a half cup of milk. He got used to it pretty quickly.

Good luck!

K-Mart sells plastic diapers covers....kinda like plastic undies in the kids section. It's the ONLY way I could get my kids to stay dry. Good luck :)

Wow! Overnights already! That's amazing! Ok, here's my advice. My 2 1/2 yr old son is still in diapers. If I put him down without some sort of onsie one, he reaches down his diaper and plays with his pee pee. It's then left pointing upward toward the top of the diaper and then when he pees, it goes everywhere. He gets soaked, his clothes, the bedding, everything. With a onsie, that never happens. Could your toddler be doing that same thing?

My daughter is 20 months old and a few weeks ago we just started checking her diaper before we went to bed and if it was even a little wet, we changed it. She never wakes up and now, no more leaks in the morning.

I changed mine right before I went to bed every night.

If he wasn't very wet I'd wake him up a little, and ask him to go.

Voila!

I had this problem with my son for awhile too. We tried a larger size. We tried double diapering. Neither of those worked. But what did work was a brand of diapers called Mom 2 Mom which is a Safeway (Von's/Pavilion's) brand (so you can only find them there). I don't know why those diapers were different but it solved the problem 90% of the time. We still had an occasional leak but not the soaking wet front that he was having every night before that.

We had to start changing my son during the night, right before we went to sleep. Putting a fresh diaper on him around 11:30 or midnight was enough to keep him dry until morning. He didn't really even wake up during the change.

You can also try going up a size in diapers, that will usually help contain leaks. If it doesn't, Pampers recently started making an overnight diaper too. It might fit him better.

I've also heard of people who put a maxi pad in their baby's diaper at night for extra absorption.

You probably have to move up to the next size. I thought the weights were primarily for just that, but they are also for the amount of urine. That is what I did when they seemed to stop working for me and it worked. More expensive I know, but much better to have a dry one. Good luck to you.
