Seeking Recommendation for Holistic-minded Pediatrician

I have received so much support from moms on this site, that I have yet another request. I am looking for a pediatrician in Tucson that is open to holistic ideas. (I look for this for myself, so why not for my children – I once had a dr that scoffed at the idea that I was getting relief for fibrocystic breasts from taking evening primrose, and I promptly left him).

I would like someone who might suggest more natural approaches/remedies before medicines and medical interventions (like blood draws for allergy testing), who might suggest examining diet as it relates to eczema before suggesting hydrocortizone cream, herbs for increasing milk supply before suggesting formula, etc. I'm totally willing to do my own research and consult with alternative practitioners, but it would be nice to receive some support from our pediatrician (and not to be basically laughed at by the front desk for rescheduling shots when my son is sick).

Your help, as always, is really appreciated!

G.

Dr. Melanie Chimes is our daughter's pediatrician. She was an allopathic MD for 10+ yrs., went through Dr. Weil's Integrative medicine program, and is now a homeopath. We started with Dr. Chimes for our girl's eczema and food allergies, and are still with her after our daughter's cancer. Another good doc is Dr. Sandy Newmark. He is the pediatric "version" of Dr. Andrew Weil. Though he's not a primary care pediatrician, he does treat numerous pediatric conditions. Google them both for more information & websites.

I don't have a natual pediatrician, but I do go to a great chiropractor that knows a lot of how to help holistically. Discovery Chiropractic is on Broadway just East of Kolb. Dr. Cox & Dr. Behn are great. They also have an office in the Ina & Oracle area where Dr. Dingman is wonderful as well.

One idea that I have is checking out Juice Plus+ you sound like you would really like it cause it is all natural. It is fruits & veggies that have been flash dried (quick low temperature drying) & put into capsule form. Since starting my family on it about 1 1/2 yr.s ago I have seen a HUGE health change for us! I know now that we are getting more fruits& veggies in our diet which is what our bodies need to stay health, fight infection & disease. So if you are interseted check out my website. jphealth.net/C.
There has been lots of research done on the product too which shows that it does what it says it does. If you have any questions you can contact me through the website.

Hope your search is successful! Blessings, C.

Dr. Sandy Newmark has helped my kids. He is a medical pediatrician but he also went through Dr. Weil's program so he know how to integrate medicine and holistic rememdies. He is not available as a primary doctor because he only sees patients as a consultant. His first appt with my daughter was 1 1/2 hours. He completely went over her diet, environment, sleep schedule, etc.

I highly recommend him. I hope this helps. I would like to find someone like him for me. Who do you use?

Our ped is very diplomatic. Before we ever sought a holistic doc we had a certain relationship with him. After, when I told him things like I didn't prefer antibiotic's or that I use tylenol very sparingly on a rare occassion, he agreed that I had a fine approach and that the body does have an inate ability to sometimes heal on it's own. He does not push meds and ever since really listens to me and what I think before he makes recomendations about my kids. He is no substitute for a holictic doctor, he is a medical doctor. However, he shows respect and seems to support my semi-holistic approach to caring for my kids. I feel that using both is a complimentary approach and besides that I go out of pocket every time we see a holistic doc & it is always big bucks!! Dr. Callie JUNIOR- is our ped.

I have a fabulous holistic health practitioner who works with adults and children. She is not a pediatrician, however. She may be a great resource for you. She may be able to steer you in the right direction. Let me know if you would like her name and number. My family loves her!
