Seeking Place to Donate Women and Children's Clothing

I am in the process of moving and have cleaned out the closets. I have a couple bags of women and children's clothes I would like to donate, preferably a women's shelter of some kind. I do not want to deliver them to a Goodwill or a Salvation Army because they are large organization and usually receive much support. I know there are the green Gala bins I could drop at but I know the one by my house is always full and I see people pulling over in there cars to rummage through it, which I feel is not what it is intended for. I was hoping for a smaller organization in the Albany or Berkeley area that is really in need. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thank you!

What can I do next?

Call your local social services agency. they will know where to donate the clothes. They can probably use them for welfare clients seeking work, etc., and will probably know where you can donate them where they will be given to a needy person rather than sold. Battered women's shelters are usually confidential so this is the only way I know of to get something to one of their shelters. Bless you for caring and sharing!

you could try calling BANANAS Inc. (www.bananasinc.org ), the child care resource/referral nonprofit around the Oakland/Berkeley border, they usually take childrens clothes for the bins they maintain in the lobby for their low-income clients (it's best to call first, sometimes they aren't accepting donations). Probably any area homeless shelter or battered womens shelter would be glad to accept your donations.
