OK, I know this is strange, but my son and I found out we are both allergic to soy and the main bummer for me is no SOY SAUCE. Chineese food was a big favorite in our house. Are there any substitues? What do you do now instead? I'm surprised at how much food has soy in it!

What can I do next?

People should not be eating soy of any kind. It makes estrogen in the body and the phytic acids block absorption of calcium, magnesium, iron and zinc. It sets babies up for endoctrine problems. Infants fed soy receive a dose of estrogen equivalent to several birth control pills a day. Be glad you can't take it!!!!

As for cooking Asian food, I really like fish sauce. Please read the labels because I'm not sure if some may contain soy. I've read that you can use it as a condiment, too. It's very salty so use sparingly but I prefer it to soy sauce. I also like to flavor recipes with sesame oil. These might offer you some alternatives. Good luck. And for people who lecture about not using soy (I'll lecture they shouldn't lecture), we probably shouldn't be drinking coffee, cola, diet soda, tap water, artificial sweetners, etc. I have many serious food allergies and my husband is a diabetic. You can't avoid everything so find a good substitute and go with it.

I'm not sure, but there are those who are intolerant or allergic to soy but can tolerate soy oils or soy lecithin??

as for the soy sauce- go to whole foods, there is an amino-acid brand name something like that- not sure if it has soy- but anyway, wholefoods is 'used' to many allergies and intolerances and can help you...

I found this:
Most soy oil does not contain soy protein, which causes soy allergy, because the soy protein is removed during processing. Thus, soy oil generally does not cause allergy symptoms. However, those with soy allergies should check with their physician about consuming products containing soy oil or processed with soy oil.)

good luck!

We us Bragg's. To me it tastes just like soy sauce. You can find it in the health food store. BUT, I don't know if there is soy in it. I use it so I don't have the table salt, and it is better for us. I hope this helps.
