Hi T. -
I have two kiddos with severe food allergies, asthma and eczema too.. We go to Dr Allen Resnick in Highland Park. He's been really good. Lake Forest Peds insist that he is THE Pediatric Allergist for the North Shore. I have asked numerous times why I can't take the kids to someone closer and that is basically what each Dr has told me... and I've talked to several there. I have to say though, we've been to the ER 8 times this year and he has been there for us even though he is not associated with LFH. He's connected with Children's and I think Glenview. He's very passionate about his work but, he is not too nice if you are late for an appointment!
Another Dr that was go to is a NAET Allergist (homeopathic). We found an incredible Dr in McHenry.. Dr Frederick Hult. He is able to test for hundreds of things at one time for only $75 for kids. He only takes BCBS insurance though. I just paid out of pocket b/c it wasn't that much and totally worth it. He was able to tell me far more allergens that my daughter had not tested positive for with the skin test. I somewhat disregarded those and sure enough, four months later, she tested positive for some of them on the skin test. : ( He does allergy drops that help to desensitize a child to their allergens that you can give at home for 40 days. Kate has so many severe allergies though that even one drop caused her constant diahrea. So, I stopped the drops for now. The wait list is long to get in.. usually 3 months or more.
