Seeking Opinions from Moms Who Had Lasik Sx

I'm seriously thinking of having the lasik procedure but still feeling slightly fearful. I know the procedure has been around for a while now, but still have reservations. Can anybody tell me about their experience, whether positive or negative? Is your vision really better than when you used contacts and/or glasses? Any regrets? Any recommendations on which surgeon to use? Thanks in advance!

One of the best investments I ever did. Raved about it so much that my co-worker also had it done. It's the greatest feeling waking up without having to put glasses on or having eyes dried from sleeping with contacts. I was fearful thinking something would be poking my eye but nothing like that at all. Dr just had me look at a laser beam, nothing "coming" into my eye. Before I knew it, the procedure was over. It's been over 4yrs now and I still get my eyes checked annual and my vision is pretty close to 20/20 still.

Good luck!

I was the biggest skeptic! I wanted freedom from glasses/contacts, but I delayed for years because I was afraid I couldn't live with anything less than perfect. And what if they couldn't make my eyes perfect. Plus, I had concerns because I have a lot of eye allergies, dry eye syndrome, and I was getting ready to turn 40 which is near when eyesight begins to change again.

My girlfriend convinced me to get a consultation so I'd stop second guessing everything. I ended up getting two consultations from very reputable doctors and they were confident I was a good candidate for the surgery, but couldn't guarantee perfect vision. I finally did it a year and a half ago and it was one of the best things I have ever done! Okay. One eye is perfect, but the other is not...20/30. It really bugged me at first because I had expectations of perfection. But, my eyes have improved and I love it!!!

There is such freedom. I can comfortably play in the ocean/pool/river with my kids!!! That's the biggest thing for me. I never realized how much my eyes were holding me back from just having fun!!! My husband was thrilled too because he said it was the first time I actually looked at him when we would lay and talk in bed.

One thing that I didn't clearly expect was the recovery. Everyone talks about how quickly you recover and you can plan to go to work the next day. While this is true, there is a lot you have to do to ensure good recovery. No makeup. Eye-drops every 15 minutes or so. Dark shaded glasses. Sleeping goggles. And so much more. It's not bad, but a lot more than I expected.

The bottom line is I highly recommend it!!! And, I'd be happy to talk with you more about it if you'd like. Either way, best wishes with your decision.

N.,
DO IT!
This operation is up there in the top 5 things I've done in my life (aside from kids, etc.!). It liberated me from being chained to glasses, etc. - I was legally blind in one eye. I say - go for it, with one caveat - don't go bargain hunting here. This is no area to scrimp. There are a lot of hacks out there - and in fact the FDA is conducting research on all of these botched operations right now. If you go to an excellent doctor and facility you will be fine. I went to Dr. Davidorf in West Hills in about 2001 - and it was awesome every step of the way. He is one of the most prominent doctors in this area as well as his dad (read the bio) - I believe he actually wrote the clinical trials for FDA approval.

Another piece of advice - if you or your husband have Flex spending at work - it is a great way to pay for it and save a bit on the total cost.
Obviously there are risks, but the doctor should make you aware of what those are according to your own issues.

Hi N., It's fantastic, I have needed correction since 3rd grade and wore glasses until 7th, then contact lenses until about 6 years ago. I had all the same kind of nervous feelings, Dr.James Bryan in Redondo Beach did my Lasik surgery and I totally trust him!!! I had one eye for distance and one of close up with contacts and now I have the same with the surgery. It's so wonderful to be able to go to the beach, skiing, hiking, sailing, swimming, tennis and no hassles to see. Sex is even better, LOL!!! you can see your loved ones face in the dark!! Do it and be happy to leave the routine of contacts and glasses.
you're worth it! D.
