I have a 5 year old who was diagnosed with cold induced asthma and ezcema since she was 2. She has been on flovent for about 1 to 1.5 years and recently with the doctor's approval she has been weaned off of it since she hasn't had any attacks for a while. It has now been 2 months and has only needed a puff of albuterol within the last 2 months. She has been doing really well but her skin seems to have worsened. She has extremely dry skin and we have used baby ezcema cream , vaseline, california baby, and other products. I am most concerned about her intense itchy skin which the doctor has told us to use 1% hydrocortisone. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to do much for getting rid of the itchiness. I feel desperate to hear if anyone can recommend natural products to help the itchiness go away quickly and what is the best daily lotion that would work on the face as well.

Hi,
I just wanted to remind you that cold and flu season is here. and Flovent usually takes about 2 weeks to start working. You may want to talk to your dr. about starting your daughter back on the meds before she gets sick.

Hello R.: I have several members of our family that have Porisis which is a more sever form of Ezcema. When the skin is that dry and itchy there are not alot of natural items out there that consistantly work. But we have found products from Arbonne that have helped like the Tea Tree oils and shampoos. Most of our friends from Guam, Tonga and Samoa use Coconut oil and it really does help.
My son does a mixture of 1% hydrocortisone cream and 1% clotrimazole we just mix the 2 together in a small container and it lasts forever & this helps everything that itches. I have found that Cortaid 10 made for Porisis which is over the counter as well is good to keep on hand when he has breakouts of dry skin and itches until I can get the compound made. Good Luck as I knowthat the itchiness is awful and can be made worse by using the wrong detergents and wearing certain fabrics. We actually use satin sheets and egyptian sheets on the beds as it soothes the skin when moving at night. Good Luck, Nana Glenda

R.,

My experience has been that the Arbonne baby line works well for children and/or adults that have eczema. Also, making sure your laundry detergent is mild and limiting inflammatory foods like wheat. I am an Arbonne consultant and would be more than happy to send you some samples of the Arbonne baby line (live in Potrero Hill) or if you would prefer you can log onto www.arbonne.com and locate another consultant. Eczema can be exhausting but there are things out that can help. Take care, C.

I definitely recommend products by Melaleuca. They are better, safer and less expensive than many store brand products. Check my website for more info or PM me with your phone # and I would be glad to call you to discuss. www.SwitchingStores.info

Arbonne is a definite plus for calming the skin. For laundry I ONLY use Charlies Soap only use a tablespoon and no need for any dryer softening sheets either. I have stopped all itchy and dry skin conditions. The vitamin C by Arbonne is wonderful for adults. They have something for all age groups, skin types, etc. You'll find that you'll have to adjust after a while since you'll no longer have the skin condition.

Also, I found eliminating all carbonated drinks and limiting wheat and soy really changed the skin. And now everyone in the house consumes at least 36 oz of water a day. I used the The Water Company - San Francisco Bay Area (also named charlie but no relation) and that has made my hair, skin, and mental health improve as well.

I get my Arbonne: http://bmatthews.myarbonne.com
I get Charlies Soap from: http://www.charliesoap.com/ (can order from Amazon).

R., my son has had eczema since he was 18months old (he is six now) the itchiness did not improve until we got him on a daily regiment of prescription lotions (desonide, mometasone, and aquaphor) twice a day. His skin has been pretty clear, but we have continued the lotions because we don't want it to return. When things were bad I would even come to school at lunch time and do an extra round of Aquaphor to keep his skin hydrated. We have struggled with this for a long time, and it was an allergist who finally set us on the right path. Good luck!

Hi R.:

My 4.75 yr old son has a similar issue. It's so hard to hear him tell me he itches when I feel like I have nothing to offer him. I've tried aquaphor and other products to varying results...(some improvement, but not quite relief)

The other issue I had was with my own dry cracking skin around the tips of my fingers (not each finger thankfully), most especially in winter. It was so bad that I completely avoided doing dishes unless I had gloves to wear because the process would make it so much worse!

In the last year two things happened that have made a world of difference:
1) A friend of mine told me that she couldn't use soft soap because she had the same problem with peeling fingertips because it was so drying. You know what? She was SO right!
2) This last spring my mother-in-law told me about Melaleuca.
By switching from Soft Soap to Melaleuca's moisturizing soap my fingers are fine and I even can wash dishes now and again without the gloves...And I found Renew!!! (just for the record, I put hand lotion on my hands multiple times per day and have done so for YEARS! Again, it helped, but didn't give me relief...Renew and mosturizing soap fixes me)

Renew is a lotion that is much better than anything else I've tried for my son. I also switched to their laundry products. I rarely get any complaints from him about his itchy skin...and it used to happen multiple times a day.

I would be happy to send you info on Renew...for info on their laundry soap and other cleaning products that are much safer for your home, check out this website: www.saferforyourhome.com

Email me at ____@____.com for more info. I'd be happy to help you out!

Good luck
P.
PS: My son used to get asthma too when he got sick...everything would just move into asthma. He's pretty much grown out of that, I'm happy to say. I feel good about these products because I believe they help by not putting chemicals in the house for him to breathe...it's pretty cool.
