Seeking Mom's Dealing with Autism

You know what? I do not recall any child with autism in my day and it is so prevalent now..sad.
I did raise a child with problems...and I decided that no matter what he had for problems he ultimately would need to be able to successfully integrate into society when he was grown.
It was hard, very hard to have him conform to the strictures of society when I knew how difficult it was for him to accomplish. It even made me feel cruel but I stuck to it.
And yes, as an adult he still has his condition and issues but he also has his own business, a lovely family, and he manages. He gets on.
I do not understand autism one bit. I think it must be enviormentally caused.
I do know myelin is the coating on the nerves and vitamin B, ( dont know which B's tho) can help with the production of myelin. You might consult with his doctor and ask exactly what vitamin B would help or even if it would help with the myelin situation.
That is it, all I know about it..but I do know what it is to bring up a child with issues and conditions that wont change.
Not an easy row to hoe thats for sure.

My son is 7 yrs old, and he also had an MRI as part of his autism evaluation. I don't see anything on his test results that talk about myelination at all. I wonder if your son had a more advanced test that was better able to measure myelin? I have definitely heard theories about reduced myelin as a factor in autism, but didn't know it could be measured non-invasively. Can you tell me where his MRI was done? I'll also ask my son's neurologist at Children's about the MRI. I would recommend the LADDERS clinic at MGH for good information - they are very focused on brain development. Good luck. Make sure you get all your paperwork ready so your son can start school when he turns 3!

First of all-you are in our prayers. What a stressful situation having this new diagnosis and another on the way.
I have two friends dealing with similar issues-one is autism, the other is Asberger's. Would be happy to get you in touch with them and what they have done to help their situations.

Myelin is the fatty coating on nerves in the brain; this coating allows messages to be transmitted smoothly to allow the brain to function well. People with lack of myelin can have all sorts of issues because their brains can't communicate appropriately. I would seriously consider biomedical intervention (i.e. DAN type work) and a HIGH, HIGH fat diet (like the Weston Price diet - www.westonaprice.org) to try to build back up his vitamins and good fats - so avocado, high vitamin cod liver oil from Green Pastures (very pure brand), whole raw milk, pastured egg yolk, homemade bone broth from organic chickens, etc.

It is widely speculated that a large majority of 'autism' cases have a beginning in Lyme disease which is passed in utero, or caught from any kind of tick, or animal carrying ticks. Lyme disease is growing, as is autism. It might be good for you to google: "lyme myelin"...it has a lot of info. Lymenet.org is always there if you want to become 'lyme literate. It's worth a look.

so huge, and so few people know about it, and so few doctors are Lyme literate.
