I am considering using a midwife for my next (4th delivery). I'm not expecting yet, just want to do a little research ahead of time. I had NO complications with the first three, so I thought a midwife might be an option. Will you suggest midwives you have used or heard good things about and share your experiences with a midwife?
Or...My OB left to do some service in another country during my last pregnancy, so I am looking for a new OB. My substitute OB was OK, but I would like to find someone I really like. A couple of things I liked with my old OB was: an inhouse ultrasound, low waiting room times, and St. Alphonsus association.
Did you have Alison Sherer-Depp? She was awesome. Don't go the Dr. Zakarian-that was a nightmare. I don't know if you want an at home delivery but I use a mid-wife at St. Als (deliver at st. als though-not at home) and she is great-Margie Widener ###-###-####). I am 8 months along and have never waited more than 3 minutes for my apt to start. They are really sweet over there.

I highly recommend the midwives at The Baby Place in Meridian. Our little guy was born there in '07. They are the most gracious, wonderful ladies, have an in-house ultrasound if you like that option, and the atmosphere there is peaceful and beautiful. Definitely check out Colleen Goodwin at The Baby Place at ###-###-#### located at 270 N Linder, Meridian, ID (between Franklin and Fairview). She's awesome on the pocket book too -- ask about prices when you go by for a tour and ask all the questions you want then. I had a way awesome experience there! I especially loved that I got to go home when I wanted. I hate the whole "hospital" experience. I also liked the fact that I didn't have all the vaginal checks that other Dr.'s think are required.

I really enjoyed my midwife experience w/Georgianna Ainslie, CNM. She works at Boise OB-GYN ###-###-####)and delivers only at St. Al's at this time. She does not do home delivery. She is very competent in what she does and is extremely thorough. She is very personable and is with you the whole journey of your pregnancy to delivery. With both my pregnancies, I never felt like there was a long wait time in the waiting room. You can schedule a "shopper" visit-which is, last I remember, a no-charge visit. At this visit, you can ask her any questions you may have in regards to midwifery, how she practices and also see if she can help meet your needs during your pregnancy.

All of the midwives that practice at St Al's are great. Georgianna Ainslie and Jo Johnson work at Boise OB/GYN ###-###-####) and Margie Widener works with Treasure Valley Women's Health ###-###-####). All the midwives are backed up by an OB which is always reassuring just in case there are problems. Georgianna and Jo generally deliver all their own patients (I would say close to 100%), Margie does almost all of her own but is occasionally off for personal time since she has a family, in that case, the OB that is on-call would deliver you. None of them do home deliveries and have to follow hospital policies just as OB's do but are extremely supportive and try to accommodate what you would like from your birth experience. Any of the OB's at either of these groups would be great. TV Women's Health has a few new doctors in the last year or so that are wonderful (Dr Janowiak you would love). St. Al's is a beautiful place to deliver and has an amazing nursing staff (which is always important). But one important thing to add, don't go to a midwife that is not associated with a medical group. They are lay midwives that have no formal training delivering babies and scary things come to St Als from them. Good luck with your next baby and congratulations!
