Seeking Lightweight Stroller for 13 Month Old

I currently one of the Graco travel system stollers and finding it to be a bit bulky and useless now that my son is 13 months old. Looking for a good, lightweight stroller to last him through 3-4 yrs old. I looked at the Maclaren but was not thrilled with it and didn't like the 2 separate handles. The 2 strollers at the top of my list are the
Mini Jogger and Quinny Zapp. Does anyone have any opinions on these two strollers? Or any other suggestions on different brands? I would prefer a stroller that has the option to recline. Also, I don't want to spend over $250. Thanks very much!!

So What Happened?

Thank you so much to everyone for all of their great suggestions! We decided on the Mini Jogger and are very pleased with it. It's lightweight but still feels substantial. Very easy to maneuver and has a great canopy that totally shades my son. Hope to get lots of use out of it this Spring/Summer!!!

I really like my one-hand folding Graco stroller that folds up to me and not me folding it down to the floor...but for certain activities I like to use my Chicco lightweight stroller--it is basic with no cupholder or bar across the front for the baby but it folds easily, maneuvers easily, adjusts easily, has a small basket underneath, has a removalbe shade, and has very comfortable handles. I think it is a bit on the taller side too (my hubby appreciated). Prices are like $60 to $100.

I have a BOB jogger, which is great, but I almost never use it! I honestly use my Maclaren umbrella stroller 95% of the time! It's so light (7 lbs!), and so easy! I've never tried to make him nap in it (if you're looking for that, it wouldn't be so good...), but it's my absolute favorite for anything paved! Outdoor sidewalks, indoor anything- especially airports. Amazing and just so, so low stress!

No off roading though. I use the BOB for that, and it's also very good!

I was just in the same boat as you are now - I had a Peg Perego Pliko 3 when my son was a newborn, and it was a great stroller for us since the car seat snapped right in. But, he just turned 12 months and I found the Peg Perego to be bulky, difficult to maneuver, and difficult to fold and unfold.

I researched many different strollers and wound up buying the Baby Jogger City Mini and I LOVE it. No regrets at all. It handles like a dream, and is so easy to fold and unfold. Plus, it folds in a much more compact manner than the Peg Perego.

I went to Buy Buy Baby and a few other boutique stroller stores to talk to sales people and "test drive" the strollers.

Good luck!

HI,

The City Mini by Baby Jogger just won several parenting awards. It is very light, less than 17 pounds and it folds very easily with one hand via a special handle.

I sell various brands of strollers in my store, www.welltodobaby.com and by far this is the most popular seller.

There is a video on our site that demonstrates all of the features. Simply go to Strollers, Single Strollers and then click on the City Mini and you can see the video.

Hope this helps!

When my daughter was 14 mos we travelled to Florida and did not want to bring my bumbleride which was great but too bulky so I bought a lightweight umbrella stroller the Maclaren triumph. She is 25 mos now and still use it. So easy and quick and very lightweight.
I love it.

We love our Peg Perego Aria! It weighs 9lbs and is really easy to use. (It has 1 handle, not 2 separate ones. ) We've used it from newborn to 2yo so far and it's still great...

Try different ones out in the store. Go to a place like Babies R Us and walk around with them. Put your son in them and see how he fits, fold them up and lift them to see how it would be to put them in the car....
Good luck

i have the Combi city savvy. it's very light weight and works great, and it's not very expensive (~$150). but it is not a one hand fold.
my friend has the Baby Jogger City mini, it folds super easy (one hand) to a small size, but it's more roomy for the kid than umbrella style strollers. you can find it online for ~ $200.

Hi J.,

I am on my third kid and have learned through trial and error that you get what you pay for...a cheap stroller will not steer correctly and will be bulky and heavy. this time, i bought the mini jogger and love it...it was not cheap but it was not expensive either (i think it was $200) and it rides like a dream. it maneuvers great and folds easier than any other stroller i have seen. you pull on the strap that is located on the seat and it folds in half (not sideways like the others). it's not as tiny as a combi or maclaren but i like it the best. i do have a combi side by side double stroller that i like as well so i use that when i am with two kids (indoors only). the mini also has a shade that is very big and some storage behind the seat as well as underneath. i ordered the cup holder, and the tray separately. i figured this is a stroller that i can use to go shopping and take walks around the lake with. it's better than buying two different strollers.
i hope this helped.

I was in the same boat and bought the Citi Mini, and we love it. The only thing I will say is that I wish there was a shoulder strap to carry it so that my hands were free to carry my very wiggly kid. But I think that other than that it is great.

I got a second-hand Combi and it's great - feels a little flimsy but that's to be expected from a stroller that weights maybe 11 lbs. It's sturdy as anything and has a carrying strap - it's easy to carry and you can get them for under $100.

We use the Graco Metrolite - easy to push, big storage basket underneath, but very light. I think they are around $160.
