I do some ironing in my home and the current rate is $2 to $2.50 per item. If you are interested, please send me a PM and I'll talk with you. I live in South Arlington..... thanks.
My wonderful husband has one slight flaw...he doesn't want any of his clothes taken to the cleaners. Since he wears business casual (mainly dockers and button down shirts) to work this means at least 10 items a week not including my clothes. While I work from home, my job requires at least 9 hours a day, sometimes more. I am able to keep up with doing the laundry, but getting I just can't keep up with the ironing. I am looking for service that either comes to your home or somewhere I can take the clothing to have it ironed. I'm also wondering what is the going rate for this type of service?

Over 25 years ago I earned extra money in college by housecleaning. Part of my duties were ironing for the family once a week. She would have what seemed to be a closet full of the weeks laundry to iron. I was paid the same rate as housecleaning ( at that time I got $30/3hrs of work in CA)
The work was done in their house using their iron, board, and starch.
Just a hint, don't let anyone iron your slips. I scorched a few of them. OOPS!
What I'm getting at, is, post a job card at the local college. Alot of college kids just want some spending money.
can you encourage him to participate in this--either do some of it himself or investigate the ironing service?
I was told a long time ago that husbands have to be trained and, my dear, it seems you have some training yet to do. We all have our quirks and your husband doesn't care for cleaners. Fair enough. Solving how to achieve the ironed clothing he wants-since you also work full-time- should now be HIS responsibility, in my opinion.
Summer is coming up - why don't you suggest he wear knit pullover shirts for the summer that don't require ironing? While you're at it, there are pants made now that are "iron-free" as well. Actually, there are button-down shirts that are iron-free too. My husband & lots of relatives wear them. Lands End makes them, I know - look at Sears or in their on-line store or catalog.
In a household where both spouses work, the "traditional" model of the wife assuming responsibility for all laundry, cooking, cleaning, etc. needs to be revisited. Each marriage, especially with children (as you'll see someday I imagine), has a number of things that must be achieved, including paying the bills and keeping the household running. There's no law saying a Y chromosome exempts someone from "traditionally female" household tasks! Good luck to you!
How did it become your responsibility to care for your husband's clothing per his specifications? If he doesn't know how to use the iron, give him a lesson or two. I did that with my twelve year old son and he's now a very independent 30 something year old man who knows how to take care of himself.
Here are my thoughts...I love my husband dearly and I am a freak about making sure that EVERYTHING is ironed in our house, but I do NOT iron my husbands shirts for work - EVER! If I were you I would hand him the iron, the ironing board and his shirts. I guarantee that he would change his tune about the dry cleaners OR I would just take them to the bloody cleaners myself and take the tags off before he got home! Most cleaners do dress shirts for around a dollar...Seriously, I would just take them there. What is the difference between going to the cleaners or paying someone to do it?
