Hi, J.!

I am a mom of three sons, and we used our largest cooking pot and turned it upside down when we were eating at the dining room table. To keep it from sliding, we used one of those rubber (waffle design) placemats that we purchased at the Dollar Tree (everything there costs $1.00). It was easy to clean up.

For safety reasons, I would recommend one of the booster seats made for use in the car. If your budget is tight, look around at the kids consignment shops, or thrift stores in your area. I've seen the booster seats for $3 - $5.
Ebay is another great place to find good deals. Happy hunting!

If you're talking about for the car absolutely do not use something from home. There is an internet group called freecycle, www.freecycle.org...you should check it out people give away all sorts of stuff.

Depending on how much of a "boost" you need... if you have a thick book (really thick - think huge phonebooks) you can put that in the chair and lay a towel over it. (We also put a towel over the chair seat anyway, under the booster we used, to protect the chair). Those blue and red plastic ones can usually be picked up at yard sales or children's consignment shops pretty cheaply. Have you checked those? Even Goodwill or Salvation Army might have them, and cheaply. They are all plastic, so a good cleanup with disinfectant can make it good as new!

Hi J.,

Would love to help, need more info. What kind of booster seat are you looking for? Something for the dining room table? Car? Toilet?

My mother always gave us the thick dictionary to sit on, with a towel over it. Although one of my brothers used to stuff the veggies he didn't want to eat inside of it. Pretty gross at the time; but funny now.
Kids consignment shops are great venues for buying the items you desire. If money is an issue like it is for so many, then utilize a big stuffed pillow that your child can be comfortable and safe while eating at the table.
Are you talking about the car? Same suggestion: consignment shop or local fire department. They will help you out

I strongly advise you to NOT use something from home as a booster seat. Car seats/booster seats are made and designed for a vehicle to protect a child from injury in any collision. If you are seeking some homemade device because you cannot afford a seat, ask your local law enforcement agency if they provide car seats. In my area, I have heard that our county provides car seats.
