Seeking Help in Early Pregnancy Issues

yes this happened to me. I was preg. had a sack and my body thought I was pregnant but somewhere along the way my levels were low causing the baby to just not form... no heart beat, no nothing and it just withered away. They put you on the meds because they were afraid that you would do the same thing that I did. About week 11 or 13 I had labor pains and passed the sack. It was a whole sack and I looked and there was nothing in it. They were right. I was told not to get preg again for 3 months. On the 3rd month I was preg. This time had no problems with levels being high or low and the preg went just fine.

I'm a nurse in labor and delivery, and spent several years as phone nurse in an OBGYN office. It is NOT unusual not to see anything this early. It DOES NOT mean it's not good. Especially if your HCG levels had such a good increase. Your HCG level has to be high enough to even see anything in the uterus. Some docs won't do an ultrasound this early unless there's bleeding. A low progesterone level can be because it's not a good pregnancy, but sometimes women just have a low progesterone level and the standard is to use supplemental progesterone. I would say that as long as you continue to have symptoms and your levels are rising appropriately, I wouldn't be concerned. I know several responses have said something about a tubal pregnancy... with any pregnancy it is important to let your doctor know if you have bleeding or pain. (Menstrual like cramping is normal- pain isn't.) Hope that helps!

Hi A., I am currently 29 weeks pregnant and at 4 weeks they could not see anything either. I had JUST found out. They had me come back in two weeks and was able to find the gestational sac (sorry, I called it a blastocyte, couldn't remember what it was called). So, if your levels are going up, it's a good chance that it is just too early to see anything with an ultrasound this early in the pregnancy. I dont know much about this, but is it possible you have a tubal pregnancy?

Hi A.. I have 3 children and have had 2 miscarriages also. My miscarriages came in between my first and second child. When I got pregnant with my 3rd child(this was my fifth pregnancy), my doctor did an ultrasound at around 4-5 weeks and we couldn't see anything at all. My HCG levels were rising normally, but the doctor told me I would probably still miscarry because he couldn't see anything. Being a labor and delivery nurse and working in an OBGYN office, I see this all the time. I still didn't believe that he was right. I waited for almost a 1 1/2 months before I let him do another vaginal ultrasound. The ultrasound revealed a perfectly normal growing baby. I had her at 38 weeks on January 12th. Even though you were supposed to be 4 weeks along, ovulation occurs at different times with different people and you may not have gotten pregnant as soon as you thought. As long as the HCg levels are rising normally, I wouldn't worry. I know it is hard to hear and hard to do. But from a medical standpoint, it all looks normal. J. and the only advise I have is that when you are pregnant your whole body needs to adjust.Drink lots of water and try fresh ginger cut up and boil for a while.Drink as a tea this will help in so many areas and keep you and the baby healthy.God bless you and your children and try not to get to worried,stress is bad for you and the baby.

If you are concerned at all, your physician is who you should be asking these questions. If you are not satisfied with the answers, then get a second opinion. Getting advice from people who only know part of the story is not a very good idea.

My first pregnancy was like that. When I went for an ultrasound, they couldn't see anything, but said it could be to early.....which could be your situation. For me, it wasn't and I had a unviable preg. Your hormone levels take a while to drop back down so that's not really a good "measure" I felt very pregnant for another week before my D&C due to my body still producing lots of hormones. Fortunatly, the first time we tried once we could I ended up with a very healthy baby girl.

It could have been just "too early" to see anything in the ultrsound and I hope so for you!! Good Luck with everything!!

when I had an ectopic (tubal) pregnancy, my HCG levels were rising but of course the pregnancy was not viable. I ended up with a ruptured tube and had to undergo emergency surgery and have the tube removed. I'm sure your dr. would have thought of this possiblity with you(?) maybe be aware of the symptoms of an ectopic (pain in the lower right or left abdomen; chest pain, shoulder pain)

My friend had this same thing happen. They kept telling her that there was sack with nothing in it. This was very early in her pregnancy. Eventually they did see little David and all was well.
My sister also had a problem with blighted ovum's. This is an unfertized egg that was trying to act fertilized and made her feel pregnant, but in fact was not with a child. Just a egg that thought it was fertilized. But she had bleeding from the get go.
These are two instances that came to mind. Continue praying that God will finish what he started and give you peace to endure whatever the outcome is. I am believing for a beautiful, happy, healthy little baby in a few months!!!

Please be careful!! You might have an ectopic. I have had 3 and one resulted in a ruptured tube. When I was pregnant last summer with my third ectopic my HCG was normal and rising and my progesterone was low but at the 6 week u/s there was nothing in my uterus - within 12 hours of having that u/s I was in the ER almost bleeding to death - MAKE THEM give you another u/s so they can make sure there is a fetal pole - if there is not, they can give you some Methotrexate to save your tube and your life.

I have had two children and 1 year old and a 2 year old. They never did check my Progesterone levels with either on of mine just my HCG level. The only reason they checked that was because i had miscarried one baby before having my first child. I would maybe ask for a second opion as far as the ultrasound goes. Some of the techs have no idea what they are doing..

i did know a couple who had a diagnosed miscarriage. they were sure that the doctor was wrong and that they had not miscarried. she went to another doctor a week latter, and when they did an ultrasound, they found a healthy pregnancy. she carried to term and has a beautiful baby girl now. i think this is very rare, but i have known it to happen.

What did your OB say when they couldn't see anything on the internal ultrasound? I don't want to scare you but my only concern would be that you are having an ectopic pregnancy. I had one about 12 years ago and my hormone levels kept increasing but they couldn't find anything on the internal ultrasound. Finally they had me go the emergency room and they ended up having to a laproscopy and remove the blockage from my tubes. I sincerely HOPE this is not the case for you but something you might want to ask about. Good luck!

4 weeks is very uearly for an ultra sound and it was probably just too early to see anything yet. i would say they have to do another one in a few weeks to really be able to see anything. jsut stay positive and keep praying.

I had very similar symptoms with low progesterone and above average HCG ranges. It could be something copletely different but when I had these symptoms it was a partial molar pregnancy, the baby is not viable, which can be caused by the lower than normal progesterone levels. To give you hope, it may not be this at all just what I went though. However if it is a molar pregnancy you need to have it diagnosed immediatly as it can be dangerous to you. That preganacy had to be surgically removed but I am currently 7 months pregnant again with a healthy pregnancy this time. I was put on progesterone and have before I got pregnant and am still on progesterone now just to ensure the baby is safe. If the baby is currently fine you can ask your doctor to keep you on progesterone throughout the pregnancy because it cannot hurt you or the baby and gives me great peace of mind. It is a safe supplement that ensures healthy development.

This happened to me too. However, even after taking Prometrium, my levels were hardly going up. They didn't find anything at all during my first ultrasound :( They told me, during my first couple of appointments, that the pregnancy was "probably not viable."
But.....I now have a 20lb 4 month old :)

A. --- I hope this is helpful information, but your situation sounds very similar to the beginnings of my 1st two pregnancies which resulted in unviable (and even dangerous) situations. THE first most critical is the potential for ectopic pregancy (when the fertilized egg develops INSIDE the TINY felopian tubes) - This can BE VERY DANGEROUS FOR YOU!!! My HCG levels were increasing, yet vaginal ultrasound revealed NOTHING in the womb - A more high tech ultrasound procedure of tubes, etc revealed a "bulge" in the tube that was the growing egg!!! A quick surgical removed the egg and SAVED MY TUBE!!! Secondly, I have endured a molar pregnancy -- once again HCG levels were increasing VERY RAPIDLY, yet this time the ultrasound revealed a cluster of cells that were non viable in the uterus --- safely removed with D & C. FINALLY, HOPE!!! The first ultrasound with my BEAUTIFUL baby girl DID NOT reveal anything in the womb - I was devastated!!! and was sent home to AWAIT MY MISSED ABORTION!!! When I came back in 1 week to check levels, etc...another ultrasound was done and THERE WAS MY BABY's BEAUTIFUL HEART BEAT!!! Therefore, I caution you that it could be something serious or your little one might be taking its time to develop like I believe mine did~!!!

i had the exact same problem - my levels kept going up but they couldnt see anything on the ultrasound - i hope you ready for what im about to say................. I was pregnant with twins!!!!! Thats why it was so difficult for them to see anything at first - so if i was you i wouldnt worry - you could very well be carrying multiples! I am now 3 months pregnant with the twins and super excited! They werent able to see the babies until i was about 7 weeks so keep your head up and try not to worry too much. Stress this early in your pregnancy is really not good - so take a deep breath and relax until you know exactly whats going on. Hope this helped - good luck and god bless!
