I'm looking for great activities to do with my kids (5 yr boy and 8 yr girl) in the area or within 1 hour drive. I'm off with them for the rest of the summer and we're looking to do lots of healthy, summery events. We keep missing things by a day or so, so I'm appealing to you all for timely info. Thoughts so far are : Superhero exhibit at the Met, a AAA baseball game (need info on this), Bronx Zoo, Aquarium, nature events in the parks, library reading program, etc. etc. Just email me your great ideas, and please add all info needed for getting there, registering if necessary, costs, schedule, contact numbers...basically everything we need to know to actually do it.
The friends of the Nyacks have a mostly music festival every week in memorial park. Also, the Hudson River museum has great programs.

The Bronx Zoo is wonderful. You might also want to check out the New York Botanical Garden (right next to the zoo). It's a great place just to walk around but they also have a fabulous family garden and children's garden. Make sure you go to both if you go. The website is www.nybg.org

Have you picked up the Rockland parents magazine? It's feels like a newspaper, but it's in magazine layout. They have a wonderful schedule of events. Also the Friday paper is where everything is listed for the weekend. Also, I think it's nymetroparents.com (something like that, google it) and it lists all the stuff in the area. We like Bear Mountain. There is hiking, swimming, canoeing, merry go round, all kinds of stuff for you to do together, all in one place. good luck!
The Reinassance Fair started this weekend. That's a great place to take your kids. Have you thought about small towns? Warwick is great to walk around (the town may have summer events, I know it's a great place for apple picking). There was just a county fair in New Paltz this weekend as well (they have lots of events going on all the time). I'm sure you're familiar with Bear Mountain and Harriman State Park. If you go to their website, they have a list of activities for the summer.
