We had a very rocky road. 3 IVF, 12 week loss and then a wonderful surprise, we conceived naturally. We are so blessed and are hoping for another blessing. My adorable son is 9 months and would love a brother and/or sister. I am 41......if your situation is similar and have had success conceiving after trying "forever" without heavy duty meds, would love to know your secret/advise.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I want to thank everyone for your kind and very valuable words. So here is what has happened....unexpected circumstances spiraled me into full blown depression. I thought it was a mild case of anxiety. Transitioning from corporate America to mommy hood, managing a blended family, embarking on my husbands entrepreneurial venture during a failing economy was a lot to take on. When I lost the pregnancy weight +25, I sought help to manage my stresses and get back to my 'I can do anything' personality and normal body weight. We've been working with charting my cycle but still no results. This past winter I decided to cleanse, see a NP, restart acupuncture, and holistically revamp my diet during 2010. I even called my Dr and said enough with the antidepressants I want to conceive and I think they are interfering. My Dr protested and after careful consideration I decided to slowly wean off with his supervision. I was ready to consider clomid. I read the Tao of Fertility, and had enough information to start a very healthy regiment. I learned about kale and collard greens and started to research tea blends. 2010 is going to be my year I pledged. January I'll prepare and in the following months I'll pursue my quest to conceive with holistic dedication and fervor. Christmas and New Years was my last hooray. I drank and ate like I was on a culinary food and wine binge, champagne, blue cheeses, brie, sushi, shellfish, smoked salmon, caviar....everything you should not do when pregnant. I did not chart for December so I was not really paying attention to when I was ovulating. All this over thinking and planning distracted me from trying so hard. I am now blessed with being 11w. We rung in the New Years with a bang....and according to my records 12/31 I was NOT ovulating. Some how, someway all things lined up. So I firmly believe, managing stress, eating healthy and not trying so hard have all contributed to my latest success. I really did not want to use meds to get pregnant and I am so fortunate that I did not need to. My little guy is 2.4 months and #2 has the exact same expected date of delivery 9/25....magical. So a plan even if it is the wrong plan can work....

Hello K.,
I have a very similar story. After having two miscarrages, I did three rounds of IUI and four rounds of IVF for over three and a half years with no success. Then when we completley stopped trying and I got pregnant natually and had a beautiful baby boy at the age of thirty eight. Then four months later wouldn't you know we got pregnant again without drugs! We just had our second son in March! My advice to you is just go about things the good old fashion way... with love! And stay positive...you had one beautiful child without drugs, now you know your body can concieve just let nature take its course! Just remember how blessed you are to have one child while you are trying. Everything gets harder when you get too focused on the end result! Good Luck!!!!

Hi
Although it did not happen to me personally, once my sister in law went through IVF treatment(s), it seemend like EVERYONE was going through it. We found out that most people had success on their own when they gave up hope and weren't "Trying". The stress is gone and nature can work it's magic. That is what all the Dr's told them and all we have met. I know it is probably not what you want to hear, but it is the truth.
I wish you luck...siblings are great :)

Hi K. - I am due any day with our second little girl. Our first was conceived via IVF after 4 cycles and is 4years old. When we tried for #2 I really hope my body "knew" what to do, but after 2 years no luck! So we went back to IVF where we found success on our 1st fresh cycle. I see you are in CT - we went to UConn and I highly recommend them. I have gone to 3 different RE's and they are by far the best. While I did have to take the meds, it wasn't nearly as many as my first time around. And I felt so much better going through the cycle with less drugs. I am one of those people that cringe when people say "Just relax it happened to a friend of mine" Going through IVF is one of the hardest things to go through and if someone has ever been there - they would never give that advice.
Good luck to you!

i had the same similar experience i went throught 9 cycles of iui's we decided one more time befor we we going to adopt, the 10th cycle of iui's and thre doctor switched us to an ivf cycle and we had our wonderful beautiful little boy three 1/2 years ago, we were actually convinced he was going to be our only child we had relaxed on the whole idea of having a baby, we even i will adnmit spoiled him because as you know it is a very special love because of what you had to go through to have him, then low and behold i actually thought i was sick because i was just tired all day, and when we went to the doctors office for mono and thyroid tests for the tiredness i had they decided to just check for a pregnancy test and low and behold i have a beautiful 20 month old baby girl. i love them both equally but there will always be a special kind of love with my son because of what we went through for him, and a differnt kind of love for how special my daughter was because how we had her very unexpectadly.
i guess the only advice i have is that we just as people always say is to relax and to just enjoy the one you have and hopefully like us everything will seem to happen naturally, and you will get the great suprise of your life also, it is totally possible...
good luck in the future with your family...hope this helped
email for any other advice or just to talk, i wished i had someone to talk to that went through ifv also.....

Sometimes it a little thing that makes the difference. After my first child I began allergy shots and miscarried at 3mo. twice. Dr. insisted the shots were not the cause. Stopped the shots anyway and had a beautiful baby boy. This probably won't help but you never know what little thing it could be. Good luck.

My daughter has the same birthday and it took us 3 years to have her. We think of you and pray that it all works out. I used Clomed and that worked for us after about 4 months. I never had to do the IVF. We have decided to have one, my pregnancy was very hard and the last 6-8 months have been difficult, so I can't think of another one, as she is only 9 months. I am 31 and wish you well. Alison

K....as a clinical hypnosis therapist, I've had 100% success with the many so-called infertile women I've worked with...some after thousands of dollars spent at medical fertility clinics with no results. All my clients conceived in one to three hypnosis session...no drugs, just relaxation and programming the sub-conscious mind to work with the body systems.

I cannot write this enough on this board...Read Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Dr. Toni Weschler. Then follow some VERY simple rules to learn when you ovulate. We currently use this method to not conceive, and it does work if you follow the rules and pay attention to your body!!!!!

Good luck!

Hi K.,
It took me seven years to convieve my beautiful daughter who is now almost 5. It took me seven months to get pregnant the second time around! I have a second beautiful little girl who is almost 2. The first time, I had just reached the point where I said enough is enough! If I'm not pregnant by the first of the year we are asking the doctor what comes next. We found out Christmas morning that I was pregnant! What a wonderful present! We wnated a baby more than anything else in the world!
The second time around I figured that we had been trying 5-6 months and nothing, so I asked the doctor what to do? Should we try something since I had such a hard time the first time around. He said no, I got pregnant the first time, and we needed to wait at least a year before we went to the next step. Don't you know the next month, I was pregnant! So I don't know, I guess paitence and presistance pays off in the end?! I used to get so frustrated when people would tell me just relax it will happen when you are ready. But in the end I guess they were right! So enjoy trying, and pray, hopefully it will be easier for you the second time also. Good luck and God Bless!

Hi K.,
I was first put on clomid and then another med ( don't recall) It took about 6 onths for it to take affect. I was told that it had no bearing on losing the twin not any bearing on the misscarriages. i wish I could help you more. I just turned 40 and actually are thinking we should go for one more. My hubby says hes done so most likely we won't. Our house is crazy and hectic on any given day as it is! Good Luck and please keep me posted!

It took me nearly six years to get pregnant. My husband was in the Navy when we started, and I lucked out and got a fertility specialist as a doctor (we were on base in Japan, so that was a rare event). She ran all sorts of tests, all came back fine. I just wasn't getting pregnant. I read all the books, followed all the tips, but nothing. Then I went through periods of crappy insurance that didn't pay for any sorts of tests or treatment. Finally, I got Clomid, and it worked at the lowest dose during the first month. I took it early to force ovulation on the 9th day, to give plenty of time to implant.

hi K.,

well, the good news is you know you can get pregnant. we got pregnant once on our own with a 7-week loss, then had an IUI with a 9-week loss. the third time was the charm with another IUI. i took a bit of clomid for a few days, had one shot of something to make me ovulate and one medical turkey baster later, here we are. i have many friends who have been down this road. it's a horrible, bumpy, unpredictable road. most of us had IUIs with success, even one after a failed IVF. i'm giving it another couple years before i try again and will probably give it 6-months before seeing the great and powerful dr. kreiner again...only because i'm terrified of having twins the second time around. good luck.

My advice is to try a naturopathic physician (NP). NP specializes in nutrition/diet/exercise (vitamins/mineral/herbs/natural hormones) to help cure diseases. My NP explained that when your body is stressed (or sick) it can shut down your fertility because it’s more of a stress to the body and not necessary function. So, if you just help your body to become healthier it will help your fertility. I worked with my NP when I was very sick to get healthier in general and was able to conceive. I did have to use IVF because my husband was also infertile and I was so sick that we had to use all our resources on me. My NP www.drwald.com was rather expensive but I had many problems and he is very good. I was told by REs that I would never conceive. But, there are others more reasonably priced, get a referral in you can.

Good Luck and God bless,
G.

Hi K.,
We sort of have a similar story. I'm 33, and after 16 months of trying to conceive naturally (and a host of fertility kits, vitamins, herbs, diets, etc.) they told me we had unexplained infertility. 2 months later, I asked them to run more hormone tests, they did and discovered I had elevated FSH (11.7), which would indicate reduced ovarian reserve and/or diminished egg quality. So, I either have too few eggs, or what I have aren't good (as in old) or both. Being only 30 at the time, I couldn't believe it. Found out my mom went into premature ovulatory failure (early menopause) in her 30s. My cycle had been radically changing as well. So, we decided to go to a fertility specialist. My magic combo was Clomid, IUI, OV Watch, acupuncture and a PH balanced diet. I did all those things and 2 months later had my daughter. After her birth, and after I got my period back, my cycle seemed so different. It was the right length, not so painful, the right flow, my skin was normal/what I'd expect, not hormonal looking all the time, I was loosing weight well...and then suddenly it changed again back to my old ways. I panicked. I went back to my acupuncturist. We did acupuncture and chinese herbs for about 3 months before I started trying again. It took 4 months after that to conceive naturally. I'm only 12 weeks, but so far so good with the pregnancy! Along with the acupuncture, we also used the OV Watch again. I really think it's a great fertility tool. It tells you 6 days to be active: the four days leading up to ovulation, ovulation and the day after. I used it for 2 months each time and got pregnant on the 2nd month. I know it's scary, and frustrating. I'd say get started sooner than later if you anticipate a longer road. But, it can happen!! Often times a first pregnancy kick starts your system. One thing I learned from my first pregnancy. It really doesn't matter how they get there, as long as they get there safely and healthy. Best of luck to you!!
