Hello,

I am interested in joining a new church in the Farmington area. I am not much of a spiritual person but am interested in my son growing up going to church regularly. I am currently methodist but am interested to know of recommendations of good methodist churches or other churches with very liberal views. Please do not respond and try to get me to convert or lecture me on my choices....I am simply looking for a nice family oriented church to attend with my family where we can be involved in groups, meet people and worship together.

Thanks!

H.

I realize this imposes a slight drive for you, but especially if you are looking for a good fit for your son, I recommend Northridge Church in Plymouth. It is a non-denominational, Christian-based church with a fantastic kids program. My kids ASK to go to church (the four year old starts asking mid-week how long until she can go). Services are on Saturday evenings (5:15 and 7:30, I believe), and on Sunday (9:15 and 11:30). www.northridgechurch.com I do not know exactly what you mean by liberal views, but I invite you to check this out. We are in the middle of a fun series about relationships called "aliens", and our stage is donned with a space ship. Where else can you get that? Ha ha. There is also a cafe there, so you may get a coffee or bring one in with you to sit back and relax. And come as you are. It is casual. Please feel free to contact me with questions or comments.

We go to the Vineyard Church of Farmington Hills on Shiwassee just east of middlebelt. We have a great kids program from newborn through teens that have their own class during the sermon. The children are with their parents during worship and communion then the pastor prays for the children before they go to their own class. My husband and I go along with our 20 month old daughter. There are several children that range from one year all the way through to senior in high school. If you would like more information please visit our church's website at www.vineyardfarmingtonhills.org I will pray that you find a church home very soon so that you and your son will have a some extended family to lean on when you need it.

Ahhh, H....I've totally got the place. It's Northridge Church in Plymouth. I drive there from Redford. It's totally cool & contemperary-not "churchy" at all. Every week, you can see a play, hear some Rock&Roll (music is awesome!),laugh, and get a message. My kids love it and I love it.

A little background of my kids. They are adopted and the foster home they were in before went to a VERY stuffy Episcopal church. My church was crazy and strange to them for the first few weeks. After a couple weeks, though, they started asking me if we were going to church and when I said "yes" they would be excited. Now, they love church. The kids all go to seperate areas based upon age so each room is age appropriate. They even have a cafe' so if you want a latte to take in to church with you, you can. Very cool.

Anyways, if you decide you want to check it out, let me know and I'll hook up with you or hook you up with other Mamasource mama's who go there. Their website is www.northridgechurch.com.

One more thing...I too had a Methodist background. I loved the church I grew up in (Lake Orion United Methodist Church) and still do (my parents & siblings still go there). The problem is, I live to far away to attend there. For several years, I have checked out different churches in this area. I got married at Nardin Park UMC in Farmington. The problem was, none of them were right for me. It wasn't until I went to Northridge that I felt it click.

Let me know if I can be of any other assistance or if you have any other questions. My email address is ____@____.com.

Williams Lake Church of the Nazarene in Waterford is a great family church. We have an awesome children's program with a fun and loving Children's Pastor, a super teen program with a young, dynamic Youth Pastor, and a very contemporary Sunday morning service featuring live music. Our church family is welcoming and supportive. Personally, I wouldn't go any place else. Just thought you'd like to know your options if you are willing to drive a bit farther. (We have people come in from all over to attend!)
