Seeking Advice on Fogging House for Spiders

They should've told you in order to get everywhere they need to that all your cabinets and under your sinks need to be empty & covered up with something. The childrens' room I would personally empty it if I had to load it in a car! Ceral boxes need to removed & covered, you will have to remember to wash off every can or bottle or jar before opening if you leave them in the cabinets. Yes! You will need to wash all your dishes, pots & pans if left out where the spray can get on them. They don't want you to mop the floor for at least 24 hours after they spray. Since you have a way to get on the internet checkout either "parents.com" or "drugdigest.org" to see what they say about the spray unless you can reach the babies doctor before the sprayers come!! Good luck for it is a pain but those brown recluse are nothing to mess with!!!

Be sure to do the attic and basement too. Whatever the side effects of the spray, it can't be worse than the bite of the recluse!

Hey, A.. I've fogged my house for bugs plenty of times, and What I do is cover everything that can't be hidden away. Things like the salt and pepper shakers, the coffee canister, the dog food dishes, toothbrushes and toothpaste, even a loaf of bread (thin plastic)and so on I just put in a drawer or behind closed cabinet doors. Any furniture my kids would get on, I would cover with a old sheet. I'd cover the beds with their sheets because they're easier to wash afterwards. And it wouldn't hurt to mop the floors afterwards because of the toddlers. But the carpet is porous, so I didn't worry so much about it and my kids never seemed to suffer any adverse effects. Just make sure you air the place out really well afterwards. I'd sit the foggers on a sheet of old newspapers and make sure they had plenty of space around them to spray easily. It only takes a few minutes for the foggers to shoot the poison out in the air, then it takes time for it to work on the insects, then the rooms have to be aired out before you can stay in them. But it's worth it to get those pesty spiders and roaches or whatever.

I don't think you're a worry wart at all! I'd pick the chemicals over brown recluses any day! I would suggest putting the toys and anything else you're worried about in sealed garbage bags and any food that could be exposed in the refrigerator. As long as the appliances are covered and the clothes are in the dresser drawers they should be safe, and I would wash the bedsheets afterwards too (don't strip the beds because the chemicals will get on your mattresses!). I would ask the exterminators about cleaning afterwards and the pediatrician about any harmful chemical effects on your children and what to do about it.

I personally wouldn't fog my house. I had a few spiders when we first moved in here and I contacted my pest control company that I had my termite contract with. He came an put out these sticky boxes in all rooms where my children can't get to it or my dog. I sorta smells like peanut butter so it is important that it be behind something untouchable.
He told me they would rather put these out and they are good for over a year. WHat he said was when you fog, spray or put poison in corners a brown recluse is SO high off the ground they just walk right through it and it don't effect them where as these boxes when they walk through they are STUCK and the poison kills them. No matter how full they get it is good up to a year. It has been over a year sense he put them out and I haven't see one spider through out our house. (except a few in the sticky box)

I have fogged my house before but it was years ago contact your physician explain the situation to him and he will beable to ease your mind. I do recommend you wash over all the toys and dishes I don't see no reason why you can't mop the floors and probally walls too.

I heard the same thing as Janet J about poison for spiders. I called someone about a spider problem when I first moved into my house and they told me spraying for spiders is ineffective because their legs make them to high of the ground for the poison to work. We just squished them whenever we found them and then eventually we didn't see anymore. Maybe word got out around spider town :-) If I had known about those sticky boxes I would have probably tried those. However, I don't think we had brown recluse spiders. I think they were mor run of the mill large spiders.
