Hi R.-
I have nothing but sympathy for you! My son is four years old, and between the ages of 3months and 3 1/2 years we had spent at least two to three times a month at the pediatrician's office. He's been the the ear nose and throat specialist, has gone through an adnoidectomy and two sets of tubes in his ears, hospitilized for pneumonia, influenze, and asthma, has had hand foot and mouth three times, chicken pox, throat infections, I mean everything. I have tried everything to keep him well; organic foods, vitamins, milk, no milk, soy milk, every laundry detergent out there. The pediatrician reassured me all the time that he would grow out of it, it was nothing I did wrong by not breast feeding or in caring for him, but that some kids just manage to pick up everything they come by and sometimes, every trick in the book just doesn't help.
Lo and behold, he was right! We have been just a little more than a year without just a few isolated episodes. He is on Singulair to control his asthma and allergies, and also off the nebulizer treatments and onto just a Flovent inhaler and of course the albuterol for back up control.
I guess my point is you can't freak yourself out trying to control something that very well just isn't controllable. I understand the feeling that you have to do something better so he won't be sick, but the stress of that is eventually going to make YOU sick (I know that for a fact). Just caring for them when they are ill is hard enough, don't make it harder. Do right by being a healthy mom so you can take care of the babes when they are sick! Also if you ever need someone to talk to feel free to drop me a line.
