Hello! I want to know if anyone has any thoughts/suggestions/recommedations (I'm even open to urban legends!!) on how to get my core back or closer to it's prebaby self. I have a 6 month old baby and am back to my normal weight, but as many of you know objects shift during flight! I am wondering if anyone has had success with a particular type of class to win the war against the love handles!!

I know this sounds really shallow and stupid. But at my house we do things backwards- we had a baby last August and are getting married this August. I'd like to look as good as I can since I haven't seen a lot of the out of towners since I was pregnant or just had my son.

Thank you for your time and thoughts!!

Try Baby Boot Camp. It's a fantastic workout and it's with other moms! They do a great job of increasing your tone (all over) and you also get cardio. You basically run/walk at a park and then take stops along the way where you do resistance exercises. It's also a great way to meet other moms/kids! Check out www.babybootcamp.com.

Hi D. -

I'm a certified personal trainer who works w/ pre & post-natal women. If you're looking for some exercises, I've seen decent ones on babyfit.com and fitpregnancy.com. You *might* have to sign up for baby fit before you can look at their resources, not sure. Look under the Moms & Kids section. On fitpregnancy.com, look under Your New Life.

Hope that help! Good luck!

H.

Give it some more time...with both of my babies, 9 months after delivery, I was smaller than I was before I got pregnant (and I dont exercise). As for the love handles, I'm sure they are not as obvious as you think they are, enjoy your curves!

see if there is a stroller strides group in your area, they walk and work out while pushing strollers and I was able to really firm up post baby doing the work out 2x's/ week plus you meet other moms and bring your baby
try googling stroller strides to see if there is one in your area
Also Yoga really helps strengthen and lengthen your core, and is nice relaxation for a new mama
take care

Hi D.,

You are not shallow or stupid, we all want to look our best especially after a baby. It does take a toll on your body. Just keep in mind that it took 9 months to grow your baby and it will take time to get your body back.

I own a Baby Boot Camp franichse (not in your area) and I love it. You can expect a full body work out while spending time with your child. You bring your child in a stroller and get a 55 minute gym quality work out which will include stretching, strength training, cardio and core work. There is a location in your area. Check out http://www.babybootcamp.com/pages/class_location.aspx?i=15

Your first class is always free so you have nothing to lose!

HI D.,

I have an awesome trainer who is just opening a new studio! He helped me do weight loss/fitness competitions before and he worked with my Best friend after she had a baby. He really gets us looking insanely awesome pretty quick! I just had a baby in October and I am just now starting to train with him again. I LOVE IT! I am on Mirena so my weight loss is...well..not like it used to be but he's getting me toned which I need the most. I am actually going to be on his web-site soon with an after picture of my weigh in day. You can email him @ ____@____.com Him J. Maynard referred you so you can get on the same program I am on. I will guarantee he is the best trainer i have ever had!! If you want I'll send you my after pictures also so you know first hand he's awesome. OH yes and I am vain apparently! ha ha! My fiance (yes same as you, baby first wedding to come later) is in great shape so i have to look perfect! I mean like toned, lean and perfect!

You've already had lots of suggestions about workouts - here's a suggestion about wedding-wear:

Go to Dark Garden in SF and get a *good* corset. (Fredericks of Hollywood is not a reasonable substitute.) Then you can re-shfit your new curves into a classic hourglass shape. A well-made corset is functional and comfortable, and looks great under formalwear.

pilates will do wonders for the core. You have to do it correctly, though, so I suggest taking classes at a studio before doing it with a dvd or at the gym.
Good luck and congratulations on your baby and wedding!

belly fat can hang on if you are not getting enough sleep. (Which happens to soooo many moms with babies, right?) Try to get enough straight through sleep at night and continue with sit ups (get a workout ball - it will help your back too)

Try the Firm program. Go online and check them out. They have online support and can help with postpartum issues. It's mostly, if not all, women.

Baby Boot Camp! It's a stroller-fitness program that helps moms regain or enhance pre-pregnancy fitness levels and meet the physical challenges of parenting by emphasizing strength training in a supportive environment. Best part is your baby gets to come with you. No paying extra for childcare of worrying about your baby.

You can visit www.babybootcamp.com to find a class near you. In 2 two years, I've gone from a size 14/16 to a 4/6!!! No joke. I started Baby Boot Camp two weeks before my youngest's 1st birthday and he will be 3 next month.

Good luck! Feel free to email me if you have questions about the Baby Boot Camp program.

Hi D.
Denise Austin has a good post-baby wkout video.. google her and check that out. Additionally, you may want to sign up for an aerobics class at your nearby City College, it's more affordable than a gym and the instructions are usually very good, at least the ones in S.F. have been (not sure where you reside) Also, many of the colleges are now offering pilates and yoga classes (again, more affordable than going to a private class)

Congrats and best of luck to you!

I would highly recommend Baby Boot Camp. I don't know where you live, or if there is one in your area, but they are great! You get a great full body work out in about an hour, and you get to keep your baby with you. Which is a wonderful perk! Google them on line and see if there is a franchise near you!

Good luck!

After looking around at the area gyms and calculating cost, we decided, short term, to go it at home. I have balance problems and we'd invested in a Wii Fit set because we'd heard it was great for balance... the yoga poses are really awesome as are the strength moves... those two sections are really great, and I actually like them better than an actual yoga class or video where you move from pose to pose... Wii makes you hold the pose for the right amount of time so your muscles are really working hard. Then there's aerobic stuff on there and it's short, but we also bought My Fitness Coach for the aerobic side and I do 30 minutes several times a week, bought some hand weights to add to it. It's really awesome if you like traditional step and floor aerobics and works upper and lower and core body in different workout. There's a flowing yoga workout on it, too. I have a 40 min commute each way to work, and my hubby is often home late, so the hours the gym was available just weren't really workable for us. I also love to walk and work up to running, so I do that in the morning as well. We figured the Wii was about what we'd spend on a gym in a year and we're using it more than we thought we would... he loves wii sports, but it's not as much of a workout, just the motions. ;) You might do better to think out of the box as to what might work for you! Good luck!! ;)
