We have a yellow lab who is about 2 years old that we adopted from a shelter about 8 months ago. My little guy is allegic so we have to give him up. He is great with cats and he is so good with the kids. He is super sweet and just loves attention.

What can I do next?

Hi K.,

Home from work today and happened to see the Bonnie Hunt show. I had read your posting yesterday and have kept thinking about your dog and your love about trying to find him a good home. Her guest today was talking about using dogs for Vets who have come home and have needs for assistance with safety, companionship, and activities! They take the dogs and have training then match them to a vet.
Well guess what kind of dog they brought out?? A yellow lab!
How grateful this soldier was to have a dog help him through life and keep him safe. Then they brought out a black lab! Think I was ment to be off today!
I think the organization is Dogs for Vets, or Vets helping heros.
Hope this might help you find a place for your dog. I think the qualities you talked about for your dog might be a great fit...purpose and love. Blessings, M.

I would check with the shelter you got him from. If they cannot take him back, they may have other places that will.

My sister and bro-in-law have been looking for a dog. I'll ask them if they would be interested. If so, could they come meet him? You can send me a personal message. Your dog would be going to a GREAT home.

Please call a Lab rescue group and don't just give your dog away to anyone who calls and don't take him to a shelter! Breed Rescue groups are all over and easy to find and they will really make sure your dog gets a good home. Our Basset Hound comes from a breed rescue and we have had other rescue dogs as well. Breed rescue people are very knowledgeable about the specific breed and its good and bad habits and are VERY careful to pair a dog up only with a family that will be a good match and a 'forever' family, and not just give it to anyone who applies, like a shelter would. If you really care about this dog and want to be responsible, contact a Labrador Breed Rescue group.
