Seeking a Great Day Trip for My Family

Like many other families, I feel like our best "family time" is away from home so that those pesky chores don't creep in and steal our time together. Does anybody have any suggestions of a nice fall day or overnight trip that is child friendly(3 and 10 months). I am in the western suburbs.

Hi,
I know you said western burbs but... I love just getting a room downtown Chicago and maybe going to Navy Pier,or Millinium park, something like that. Then the next day try the children's museum. My son loves that place.
There is also a new indoor waterpark at the Sheraton right next to Arlington racetrack. I haven't personally been there but my friends have and they like it. I believe it's like 200.00 for a family of four. That includes the room, waterpark, and I believe pizza. Have Fun, H..

We just went to Lake Katherine yesterday in Palos Park. They have canoe rides, places to feed the ducks, a nature center and waterfalls. The kids love dit. also try the children's museum at navy pier. you can turn that into a whole day. visit the museum, the pier, walk around near teh lake and around that area. Good luck and have fun!

Head to Jollay Orchards for Family Fun www.jollayorchards.com. They are located in Coloma, MI which is about a 2 hr. drive for us (LaGrange). Take 294 to 94 & they are exit 39 in MI & 1 mile off the highway. They have U Pick apples (& cherries & peaches at different times of the year). They have hay rides, a corn field maze, a petting zoo, a haunted house & all sorts of other entertainments. Along the same road there is Grandpa's Cider Mill, a couple of wineries that have tastings (something for the grown-ups) & a fantastic chocolate shop. Our friends own Jollay Orchards & Grandpa's Cider Mill & we go as often as we can. They have three wonderful kids with a fourth on the way.

I love going down to Starved Rock State Park in the fall. The hikes are child-friendly (my family took me there when I was little). The leaves are so beautiful and there's a nice place to picnic overlooking the Illinois River. And if it's a long drive, get a hotel room on the way home with an indoor pool and make a fun overnight trip out of it!

I might just plan this for our family, now that you've gotten me thinking about it!

Maybe Wisconsin Dells? Or Lake Geneva?
