There is a program at Mentor High School that i used to attend. It is awesome. You drop the kids off to the high school and your child is assigned a student teacher. When I was going to the program, each teacher had only 1 or 2 students max! Its great one on one learning. The student teachers are in 11th grade learning how to be preschool teachers. For the first few weeks, we watched the main teacher and her assistant. The kids go Mon-Thurs (Which is a normal preschool schedule) and Friday the student teachers bleach everything and have "school" classes during the preschool time. Each day the teachers rotate their responsibility. If it's one persons day to do story time and they pick the book "The Color Yellow", then the art project, circle time, snack, and every activity of the day will all incorporate together. They might paint a sunshine face on a paper plate, have goldfish crackers and bananas for snack, and sing songs and do fingerplays about the color yellow. I loved working with the kids. The teachers walk out to the cars and get the kids, and after school, the teachers pack their stuff up and bring them out to the car. When I was in Highschool at mentor high, I had a little boy who used to have to be dragged away from his moms car. Within 5 weeks of consistantcy he was jumping out of the backseat with a huge smile on his face holding my hand walking into school. It was one of the most rewarding experiences and if my daughter didnt need physical and speech therapy at school, I would have her enrolled there in a heartbeat. It is a very popular program, so if you are interested, I would call right away so it doesnt fill up.
