Does anyone know a really good childrens dentist around here? Our family just moved here and I'd hate to look through the yellow pages and try one out and find out that the dentist is a complete nut job who doesnt know how to be patient or professional with their patients. I've had one bad experience myself and I would like to make my childrens dental visit as positive and non-frightening as possible. Thanks!

What can I do next?

Dr. Richard Quinn is a pediatric dentist and is fantastic. He's on 1380 S. State St. in Dover, ###-###-####. His waiting room has a log cabin playset in it with a picnic table and lots of books and he has an aquarium. Their dental office is completely open with several kids having their teeth cleaned at once. If you have more than one child, they all go back at the same time which is great when you have a child going in for the first time. They're more relaxed if they see their big sister/brother having the same thing done. Plus you're not at the dentist for an hour and a half for dental cleanings if they were to go back at separate times. They even have a Thomas the Tank Engine train set and dollhouse for the kids to play with while they're waiting for their other brother/sister to finish with their cleaning and/or while Mom is scheduling the next appt. Dr. Quinn gives each kid a "report card" that indicates how well their brushing, etc. They do a fantastic job there. I highly recommend them.

Hi T.,

My son will see Dr. Louie (that's his last name) : ) for the first time in May. I've heard that he does good work but isn't particularly trying hard to make the kids or parents feel great. For example, my friend took her daughter there and Dr. Louie, having never met either one of them before, didn't even acknowledge my friend, he basically just sat down to start examining her daughter. She stopped him to introduce herself. She did say he was good with her daughter but she thought he'd be a bit more playful considering she was 3. Evidently the nurses are the same way--not mean or anything, just not playful. When I take my son with me to my appointments with Dr. Sidel (LOVE HIM and his STAFF!!!), they talk to him and really make him feel welcome. Dr. Sidel's office takes children age 7 and older, so we just have to hold out for 3 years until he can go there. : ) So anyway, I highly recommend Dr. Sidel for you and your husband!! And Dr. Louie's office is in the same building so you could make appts. for all of you that are close in time and not have to drive between appts.

There is also Dr. Quinn (ped dentis), who I've heard is good, but doesn't allow parents back with the kids after the first visit. That just isn't even an option for me . . . I don't know him or anyone else there and I'm not comfortable with that arrangement.

Hope this is helpful! I also want to give a quick offer to consider joining a Mother's group I'm involved with . . . Mother's & More, which focuses on the mom and the "more" that helps make her who she is. We also have age-specific playgroups so your kids can make friends, too! If you'd like more info, please reply privately.

Dr. Louie and Dr. Quinn both have excellent reputations with children. I personally use Dr. Henry who is my dentist. They did a great job with my daughter. (I took her to my dentist because Dr. Louie had a huge waiting list. I called over a year ago to have her put on it....I've yet to get a call back :( )

Good luck!
