I have allergies and asthma and at one point I went to the doctor three times in one month. The last time I went in, I told him that if he didn't do something, I was going to gouge my eyes out. It's quite a year for allergies for me too. I have allergy induce asthma, so my rescue inhaler has been a must.

As for my eyes, I've always had rather dry, shot eyes anyway. I don't know if it will help you, but I found that dry eyes are more prone to irritation, including allergens in the air. I was using patanol and lubrication drops as much as allowed by the doc, but I was going nuts! I got pink eye often, fans were , and I was even resorting to baby shampoo even though it didn't clean my oily hair well.

Anyway, my eye doctor strongly suggested that I try a dietary change, and I thought. "Well, if it won't hurt, why not?" He said that 1000 mg of fish oil and 1000 mg of flax seed oil should help a lot. He said that it might smooth out my digestion also, so I might want to cut back; but the oils should help my body lubricate the eyes. That was two years ago. My OTC Visine expired before I finished it.

Maybe you could try it.

What works for my husband, is local honey. I don't know how but then I don't know how Zrtec works either. The pollen from the LOCAL honey is supposed to help with the allergies but it has to be local and even better if it is the latest batch so the bees were "using" the same pollen that is bugging you. My husband's head used to implode every allergy season. Farmer's markets are a good place to start to find some.

Sorry you are itchy!

I too have heard the local honey idea. I think it is supposed to work because you are ingesting the same pollens that trouble you, albeit in a weakened, "processed" form (the bees made those pollens into honey). It's kind of like giving yourself an allergy shot, minus the needle, of the substance that bothers you. Plus it tastes good!

Re taking the cortizone while nursing--contact La Leche League to see if they have info on any studies that have been done. they have a lot of info on which meds are ok when nursing. It's great you are wanting to continue !! :-)

I would say go for the cortisone shot - it has really helped me in the past. As for nursing, I had to take prednisone pills (same as cortisone) while pregnant, so I would think nursing would be ok. I'd love to hear how the local honey helped though. Where would you buy it?

This is me too!! The doctor told me that the tree pollen is higher than normal and is affecting a lot more people than usual. But for me (with your same symptoms), I am experiencing these symptoms longer and more powerful than they have been in the past. Once you close your windows and turn on the air conditioning, then you should be ok.

Try finding some local honey and take one teaspoon a day, you can put in it hot tea to make easier to take. It MUST be local honey. The bees use local pollin to make the honey and the idea is that after about a week of daily doses of honey your body will adjust to the pollins. My aunt was taking cortisone shots without a lot of relief and last year I suggested local honey to her-now she is off the shots and feeling better than she has in years!

I am sorry that you are suffering so horribly! I am not sure what you can do for the actual symptoms medicinally (I am not even sure that is a word :))but anyways I wanted to share with you that my sister is affectect horribly by allergies and one thing that helps her are beauticontrol therapuetic eye pads. I have struggled with allergies for over 25 years. I find it hard to believe you are taking all of these over the counter remedy's and still nursing your child.Most OTC say you should not take if you are pregnant or nursing, so maybe you should visit a health / natural food/ herb shop and talk to a professional about your allergy problems.
